I the play The Crucible, Arthur miller bring this atrocious period of witchcraft in
American History to life, in an allegory of McCarthyism. Arthur Miller is considered one of the greatest play writers of the 20th century and his work continues to be re-staged and adapted for future generations. Because jealously leads to corruption and evil practices, Abigail Williams accuses Elizabeth Proctor of witchcraft to get attention and get closer to John Proctor and in the end he gets hanged.
Abigail Williams was always fond of john proctor and had sexual relations with him in the past which damaged his marriage with Elizabeth, and ultimately had to be removed from the house.

The conflict of vengeance illustrates the chaos going around Salem and the lies she tells to fill her obsession. Abigail continues to try and sway john towards in hopes of him leaving Elizabeth behind.
Jealousy causes people to think like the devil and corrupt the good things in someone’s life.
Abigail Williams pretends to be angry at Elizabeth, she is telling lies about me... She is a cold, sniveling woman, and you bend to her!” (Miller 150) Abigail uses her envy of Elizabeth’s marriage to john and resorts to name calling to persuade john to come to her. The Evil practices and sins will cast chaos in the town of Salem from one person.
For the most part, Abigail Williams stirred up drama and made her move by accusing Goody
Proctor and changes her behavior constantly to ruin Elizabeth’s marriage. Elizabeth points out “I am sure she does—and thinks to kill me, then to take my place.(Miller 170) The conflict of lust and obsessive nature is evident from Abigail and Elizabeth proctor knows she is in danger during the witch trials.
