Several studies have been conducted to characterize the lasting impacts that wildfires have had on water quality. These fires have led to more than 5,700 structures and 213,000 acres being burned, resulting in detrimental effects to the environment. Places such as California have experienced extreme heat in the past and present, and the heat has affected the health of inhabitants as well as other living creatures. This is also the region that I have been focusing on the most. The California region is a region that extends from Northern California to the southernmost tip of the Mexican Peninsula. Unlike the Eastern Woodlands and The Arctic and Subarctic regions, Southern California is very dry and hard to live in. The natives of Southern California ate bugs, and other desert animals. Northern California was much different though.

The great power of the water blew threw bedrocks, destroyed mountainsides, led to deforestation, and caused debris flows and flooding in nearby towns. The hydraulic mining also caused major runoffs of sediment, which completely covered fertile farmland in valleys. The landscape was not only destroyed by hydraulic mining, miners also used dangerous chemicals that still leave effects on California today.
