In the United States, the First Amendment to the Constitution guarantees freedom of religion. The founding fathers felt that this was extremely important because people came to America to escape religious persecution. It was passed on December 15, 1791, as one of te ten amendments that constitute the Bill of Rights. The Bill of Rights was written by James Madison, to provide greater constitutional protection for individual freedoms and limitiing the power of the
The first amendment of the Constitution guarantees certain rights to citizens. It guarantees the freedom of religion, freedom of the press, freedom of speech, freedom to petition, and freedom of assembly. These five freedoms are part of what makes our country so great. The freedom of religion grants citizens to practice whatever religion they please.
Such scriptures having a few vital points, that will not be enough or even valid for swaying the court’s decision. The First Amendment prohibits the construction of any law respecting an establishment of religion, safeguarding that there is no prohibition on the permitted exercise of religion, slashing the freedom of speech, overstepping on the freedom of the press, interfering with the right to peaceably assemble, or restricting the petitioning for a governmental redress of grievances. Made December 15, 1791, as one of the ten amendments that institute the Bill of
Throughout 1787 the Founding Fathers of the U.S. were creating a constitution which would establish a government, establish fundamental laws, and provide basic rights for citizens. The constitution was ratified in 1778 and 1 year later in 1789 it went in effect. The same year it went into effect, 12 amendments were proposed to the constitution and only 10 of those amendments were accepted by the states. One of the most arguable amendment from those 10 is the 1st one. The 1st amendment states that an individual in the U.S. has the freedom of speech, press, peaceful assembly and petition.
The twenty-first amendment expresses the greatest amount of importance in the constitution because it repeals another amendment and assists in creating a big picture model of freedom in the US and the world. In section one of the twenty-first amendment the eighteenth amendment is repealed, ending the prohibition of alcohol in the US. The ratification of the eighteenth amendment start a slew of problems for the US with citizens creating their own alcohol illegally which in turn increased crime and gang activity. However, through the ratification of the twenty-first amendment the government was allowed to gain a better control on crime and the distribution of alcohol through federal, state, and local laws. The twenty-first amendment allows each
The Importance of the 1st Amendment In 1787 our founding fathers assembled the constitution of the United States of America. Of this which contains the most important document to the American citizen, the Bill of rights. The first Amendment states: “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances” These freedoms granted by the Bill of Rights are often known as freedom of expression. These rights are most important to a truly free society. The first amendment provides us with new ideas and dismisses the fear of punishment
Even though the Westboro Baptist Church offends many people with their picketing and other demonstrations, I believe that the first amendment to the U.S. Constitution should continue to protect their right of performing these acts for two reasons. One, the first amendment already protects, in a sense, some of the actions the church performs, for example, the picketing of high school graduations and claiming perverts ran the schools. As unbelievable as it may sound, the first amendment allows them to say particular things like this because of what is known as the Sullivan Rule, which is a court guideline protecting inaccurate and harmful declarations against public officials as long as the claims were not known to be false at the time they
The First Amendment to the United States Constitution states “Congress shall make no law…abridging the freedom of speech”. Some people in today’s time would argue the first amendment is one of the most important listed in the Bill of Rights. Many forms of speech are protected by the first amendment that one wouldn’t think would be such as flag burning and “adult videos”. Over the years there have been many different court cases that have debated and fought the forms of speech that are protected. Many people in society treat speech differently and this is given in the United States because there are such diverse groups throughout the nation.
On October 31, 1788, James Madison, the Father of the Constitution, wrote the first amendment and said,” a good ground for an appeal to the sense of community.” The First Amendment was added to the Constitution with the rest of the Bill of Rights on December 15, 1791. The first bill was added because citizens demanded a guarantee of their basic freedoms. E interpretation or application of the freedom of speech has changed. It has changed because when the Bill was first made, it was meant that people could say and print whatever they want.
The first amendment may seem like something that is generally understood among all of those who use it, but this may not be the case. While most citizens of the United States of America would certainly say that they understand and can comprehend what the first amendment means, an underlying lack of knowledge, upon what is presumed to be the most important of all the amendments, can still be discovered. “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press, or the right of the people to peaceably assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.” The specific piece of the first amendment that is particularly important
The first amendment is very important for United State citizens. Freedom of speech is one of the most important rights. Freedom of speech grants us rights to say what we want without getting in trouble with the law. This law is important because it allows us to express our opinions. Freedom of religion is another right that is very important.
The First Amendment was written because American citizens demanded a guarantee of their freedom. This led to James Madison writing the First Amendment. The First Amendment was established when the Founding Fathers wanted to guarantee that the Americans ' basic civil liberties would not be threatened by the government. The First Amendment was confirmed, along with nine other amendments,to the constitution of the United States. The First Amendment states “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.”
In the late 1700’s, James Madison wrote the first Ten Amendments that are listed in the United States Constitution. The Bill of Rights were written to ensure American citizens that they have freedoms and rights that the government can 't infringe. Out of the Ten Amendments, I believe that the First and Eighth Amendment are the most significant. The First Amendment grants us freedom of speech, religion, press, petition, and for people to assemble peaceably.
Based on the first amendment which states that “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.”. We the citizens of the United States have the freedom to choose and practice our religion, freedom of speech, freedom of press and freedom of petition. Although this amendment seems to be beneficial for the general public it actually does more harm than good. I do not believe that there is in fact a such thing as freedom. Freedom means the power to act, speak or think as one warns without hindrance or restraint.
According To the article The Bill of Rights, states "Congress cannot pass laws That Establish a specific religion for Americans, forbid Americans from practicing Their own religions, or interfere With Americans' freedom of speech, press, the right to gather peacefully, or the right to express disagreement With the government ". Delegates from 13 states gathered in Philadelphia to sign an agreement to conduct The Bill of Rights or also known as the 10 Amendments, as these states wanted to make some additions to the constitution to make sure that the government would not to abuse their power against citizens. The convention of many states wanted all people in the United States were free to be what they wanted to be, as long as they do not break the law. Therefore the first amendment was established. In this way people could have an opinion and have the right to express themselves, even if it is talking about the government.
