People are liable to turn to alcoholism because of things that are happening in their lives; because of that, it is important to be aware of how other people are doing. Caring leads to an environment which is open and
A person that is not an addict would at someone who is an addict as a weak minded person who wouldn’t be able to live in the real world. Addicts are perceived as people who will never be able to change because they are hooked and will never to let go of the addiction. It is believed that the addict will eventually go back to the addiction. The American public is more likely to think of addiction as a moral failing than a medical condition and thus most addicts suffer from depression. Addicts can also be seen as people with mental illnesses and moral deficiency.
AA Meeting Reflection Many people who have never had an addiction may not understand the difficulty of becoming better, and that is because we have never been in circumstances where our life depended upon a substance (Berry & Ramnath, 2013). However, for people who have had a substance addiction, the difficulty to becoming better is harder because they need to regain control over their thoughts and lives. According to the alcoholic anonymous recovery program, a twelve-step meeting is a very efficient program that helps people regain control over their thoughts and their lives. One vital part of this program is the twelve traditions and twelve steps of Alcoholics Anonymous. Although the overall goal of this meeting is for members to stay sober while
The meeting was different than I expected. I expected a small group of people sitting in a circle and telling their stories and it was very different from that. It was an extremely positive place. There were people ranging in ages and people ranging on length of sobriety. Some people there have been sober for over 25 years and some people had less than a week
People need help and therapy to be able to get back on their feet most of the time. Statistics show that 75% of people receive no help or treatment, and more than 23 million people struggle with drug problems. So out of those 23 million people, 17,250,000 million people are not getting help. People need help getting help with their addiction. Stopping your addiction is a very long process.
One of the disturbing issues faced by the Pine Street homeless Shelter in Atlanta, Georgia was the alarming rate of drug abuse. This like I mentioned before is caused by depression and idleness faced by these people and engaging them will help. For those who are greatly addicted to drug use already should be placed at rehab centers, constant contact with therapist and frequent monitoring. Just because they are homeless doesn’t mean they should be treated any less regarding drug rehabilitation. PROVIDING ADEQUATE MEDICAL HELP AND
We all go through life accumulating life experiences. These experiences that cause us to develop behaviors and survival techniques that stay with us as patterns into adulthood and these can remain unconscious to us until there is cause to notice them. For example, we might find ourselves saying I 've had that problem before and I have no idea why I keep doing that. This can cause us to experience feelings such as isolation, loneliness, hopeless, despair, and helplessness. This can lead to feeling flawed and it can cause us this struggle in relationships.
If you or someone you know struggles with substance abuse please know that there are places and people that can help. There are many treatment options, such as therapy, support groups, recovery centers, and medications. Substance use has a lot more negatives then positives and it is not worth a path going down. Overall, there should not be any shame when one if reaching out for help, and it is okay to ask for help.
There is much debate on the issue of recreational drug use. Some argue it harms the user, therefore, is wrong. Others maintain that recreational drug use inspired artistic expression in some, religious awakening, and a general feeling of pleasure and positive attitude in others. Timothy Hsiao argues that recreational drug use is immoral because it impairs cognitive abilities and the state based on this fact has an obligation to enact legal restriction to safeguard that people actually exercise their freedom.
Transition: The goal at this stage is to show the participants that this is a safe place to work through their thoughts and deal with conflict. Conflict may arise is something regarding group participation and attendance. The leader would encourage healthy ways for the adolescent girls to address conflict in a healthy way. In this stage, the leader must watch out for trends such as subgrouping, giving advice, dependency, hostility and even silence.
I attended a Narcotics Anonymous meeting, NA, on Tuesday, April 28 from 7:00 pm-8:30 pm. The meeting was held at Northeastern University’s Ell Hall. The purpose of the meeting was to give people with drug addiction a space to talk about their struggles, successes, and stories and provide a community to offer support. In the meeting I attended, the program began with several readings followed by the introductions of new comers. There was a chip ceremony where chips indicating a specific time of sobriety were given to recipients; no one received a chip at this meeting.
Not knowing what to expect from alcohol withdrawal can make people reluctant to attend treatment at an alcohol rehab center. Fear of the unknown is uncomfortable and makes people stay in their old patterns of alcohol
Perspective and Summary Perspective The above research conclusions support the following perspective regarding counselling clients with substance abuse problems. Counsellors, to be effective, first must have the ability to develop an open, collaborative relationship with clients wherein clients perceive trust and commitment. Carl Rogers identifies, and research supports, this ability as related to the counsellor’s skill in conveying, in interaction with clients, unconditional positive regard and empathic understanding (Austin, 1999). Within this relationship, the counsellor must provide focus for the process by addressing the client's presenting problems directly and identifying client need for change.
Safety in group counselling is top priority. According to merriam-webster.com, Safety is freedom from harm or danger. In group sessions, keeping members safe should be a main concern of the leader. It is said that members will not participate if they do not feel safe, feeling safe in the context of group counselling is to be protected and sheltered from unfavourable occurrences in the group. I agree, it is my opinion that the dynamics of the group is at risk if members do not feel safe as this will hinder them from sharing, they will be fearful, hence they will remain reserved and the purpose of the group will not be fulfilled.
As ANGIE LEWIS said in the Alcoholism Trap “Alcohol addiction stunts the spiritual, emotional and mental growth of a person. For the alcoholic, they literally stop wanting to learn or advance themselves on any level other than the one they are already on. This is why many alcoholic are emotionally stunted and are unable to contain their emotions. Many alcoholics believe that once they are sober for a few months they are cured. Nothing could be further from the truth.
