Wind Energy: A Case Study

1536 Words7 Pages

Nature’s Home Organisation also recommended wind energy as a replacement for coal. Wind energy, similar to solar energy, is renewable, causes no pollution and cannot be over-consumed. (Maehlium, 2015) This means the duration of the usage wind energy is very long. However, the wind is an irregular source of energy as there isn’t wind blowing at one certain area 24/7, but then again the price of wind energy have decreased over 80% since 1980 and they keep decreasing. (Maehlium, 2015) This means although the certainty of power produced by wind energy is not constant, the certainty that it will be cheaper to operate and manage than coal in the future is high. Other cons of wind energy are that it can be a threat to wildlife, such as birds, and …show more content…

This is an aspiring idea, however, they recommend Morningsidea to purchase energy. How can Morningsidea be 100% certain that the countries producing the energy are using renewable energy sources? In the event that the producing country is not honest and Morningsidea uses that energy, Morningsidea cannot claim that it is not emitting any greenhouse gases. And when Morningsidea is confronted about the issue, the city cannot be without blame. Aristotle mentions that ignorance cannot be an excuse, as all actions are voluntary, (Aristotle, et al.), so although Morningsidea’s greenhouse gas emissions will be lower, the polis is being unjust, as the report presented to the world is not honest or truthful, i.e. the report does not show a true reflection of Morningsidea’s greenhouse gas emissions. Even if the producing country is using renewable energy, there are certain renewable energy that emits low amounts of greenhouse gases. Hence, this suggestion is a risk that the Morningsidea’s government will have to think about carefully before making a final …show more content…

The government should, therefore, replace coal power with renewable energy and may increase the usage of natural gas, as the pros of renewable energy and natural gas outweigh the pros of coal power. It should not consider expanding the nuclear power plant as the cons outweigh the pros, as the nuclear waste causes just as much damage to the earth than emitting greenhouse gases. The virtue philosophers would encourage the awareness of energy saving as this increases the citizens’ knowledge and with this knowledge the citizens can practise correct energy saving methods. As each citizen practises the right action, they will not only fulfil their responsibility in society by taking care of the environment, they will all become benevolent leaders so that other countries would want to follow in their footsteps. And finally, from a Kantian point of view, everyone will be fulfilling their duty in preserving the earth. If Morningsidea is taught the correct methods and why they should start being more concerned about climate change, Morningsidean’s maxim will also change for the better as they realise that they shouldn’t only care for the planet for the sake of a better political representation but because it is their duty to look after the planet
