THE HOST: THEME OF IDENTITY We live in a world where being different can either make you or break you. The words that escape your lips, the way you portray your body, what you clothe it with, where your feet may walk. These small fragments create a picture of you in every mind you encounter, once these pieces are put together, your identity is shown. This novel “The Host” revolves around many themes, such as love, persecution, invasion and one that caught my attention most, identity. I know we've all heard the countless stories of alien invasions, human abductions but these aliens are different, they don't just invade planets, they invade minds. These aliens are known as Souls, which is what Wanderer is. Souls identify themselves as peaceful creatures and they see us humans as brutal and violent beings. Sure these assumptions are true, the human race is full of murders, rape, robberies etc, the aliens failed to see that we could be more. Let the earth breathe without the violence of mankind. When we first entered story we already see that Earth is already controlled by the Souls, and the percentage of humans are going down. In this society of what is left of uninfected humans, have hate towards Seekers and Souls. These aliens took some precious things from their lives.
