Between Chris McCandless and Timothy Treadwell they have many similarities and differences. Chris and Timothy were out of the normality to society. Both of these men chose to go to Alaska and live in nature for different purposes. Chris McCandless and Timothy Treadwell journeys both reflect transcendentalism. Chris McCandless and Timothy Treadwell have many similarities. Chris McCandless and Timothy Treadwell both ventured out into Alaska trying to accomplish their own goals. While in Alaska they both lived in the wild. Chris lived on a bus in the Alaskan wilderness living off the land (Krakauer 54). Timothy Treadwell lived in the Alaskan wilderness helping bears (“The Bear Man”). Both of these men enjoyed being in the wilderness, but sadly they both died in Alaska. Even though they both went to Alaska they went for different reasons. Chris McCandless went to Alaska so he could see if he could survive in the wild (Krakauer 25). Timothy Treadwell went to Alaska because he believed he was helping the bears (“The Bear Man”). Chris McCandless and Timothy Treadwell were both considered out of the norm to society. Chris McCandless was considered out of the normality because he wanted to travel to Alaska by hitchhiking, and live in the wilderness (Krakauer 32). Timothy Treadwell was considered out of the normality because he wanted to go live with the bears in the Alaskan wilderness believing he was going to help them (“The Bear Man”). When Chris McCandless and Timothy Treadwell died it was in a coincidental way. Chris McCandless had donated $24,000 dollars to OXFAM a charity to stop hunger and in the end he died from hunger (Krakauer 72).
