The meeting was to discuss improvements on the Articles of Confederation. It lead to them discarding the first document and creating the U.S. Constitution. Many, including Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, Thomas Paine, and John Adams, built the U.S. Constitution. With seven articles in the new document, the following was also put into it. People were
1. What arguments did the colonist use to oppose the Stamp Act? The colonist were completely enraged when Britain enforced the harsher tax, the Stamp Act. The colonist felt that taxation without consent was a violation of their rights so they started to protest. The way the colonist opposed the Act was by filling the colonial newspapers, pamphlets defending colonial rights, colonial assemblies and even attacking tax collectors and officials.
The Convention also discussed the right of Congress to admit new states
That the laws of Virginia and Massachusetts are similar in that they held to very strict behavior and civil order. They both believed in the Bible being the basis for the laws that they implemented. There was a high standard in which they believed needed to be upheld to keep order. I was surprised at the crimes that were punishable by death in both the Laws of Massachusetts and Virginia. I see that in one of the Laws of Virginia they had nomercy for theft along with other crimes but in the Laws of Massachusetts they tried to give a person a chance but it still came at a high cost to be a thief.
A: The common features of these colonies were all based on their economies. The economies were all based on large plantations. Each colony had at least one main cash crop, mostly tobacco or rice. The large plantations needed someone to tend to the crops, so the owners of these plots used slaves to harvest their crops. Slaves were either african americans or indentured servants.
In both the speech to the Virginia Convention and The Crisis, Number 1, Henry and Paine write to persuade the colonists to fight. But, they both have different methods in doing this. Paine uses figurative language, tone, and rhetorical devices to convince the colonists to rise up against the British and fight for their independence. Paine’s writing uses ethical and emotional appeals, or ethos and pathos, in order to achieve his goal. Henry, on the other hands, uses logical appeal, or logos, to convince the colonists to secede from England and to fight the British.
This was their way of checking each other making them agree on any laws before passing them. This also gave the President the power to veto any acts of congress. This gave us the federal Structure of the government. The House of Representatives were elected by the people. On the 17th of September 1778 thirty nine delegates signed the Constitution though Ben Franklin said (“Thus I consent, Sir, to this Constitution, because I expect no better, and because I am not sure it is not the best”)
Patrick Henry's Speech to the Virginia Convention happen a year before The Declaration of Independence write by Thomas Jefferson, both are powerful arguments that made history in American independence, and both have literary devices such as parallelism, and metaphor to persuade their viewer. On the other contrary, Patrick Henry has different persuasive techniques like biblical allusion while The Declaration of Independence has enumeration. Their contents are similar in persuading the audience to rebel. Yet they are different. Their format is similar; they organize in a way the viewer's attention is not just on them but on what they are saying.
In May 25, 1787, a convention was called in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to express the purpose of revising the Articles of Confederation. However, the intention from many delegates was to draft a new constitution; create a new government rather than fix the existing one. Rhode Island was the only one of the 13 original states to refuse to send delegates to the Constitutional Convention. At the Convention, the first issues they had to address was the representation in Congress.
Also, the meeting place of the governor’s council and the burgesses show how the different branches met and discussed laws. The capitol was not only important during the revolution, but also teaches visitors about America’s government in the

Freedom Even though the colonists did not have a clear understanding of freedom because they were under the rule of a tyrant, the Speech in the Virginia Convention and Crisis #1, written by Patrick Henry and Thomas Paine, both motivated the colonists and congress to aspire and achieve freedom. Thomas Paine and Patrick Henry both used very similar quotes to motivate the colonists into realizing that fighting the British king would grant them freedom at last. No matter how many times the American colonists attempted to resolve things through petitions, remonstrations, and arguments the British were right there, smiling insidiously, but only proved to snare their feet. The colonists were tired of these lies and insults, so this is where Paine and Henry step in.
Near the end of British control, the American colonists got angry about what was happening in their country and start to spread the idea of self-rule. In 1775, Patrick Henry gave the “Speech in the Virginia Convention” to persuade the representatives to prepare for the impending war with the British and fight for independence. One reason Patrick Henry wants to persuade them into to following him is to prepare for war. He wishes to convince them to prepare for the incoming “storm” which they have been doing “everything that could be done” to avoid the “storm”. He is trying to convince the delegates that the option of war is impossible to hold off any longer and will not wait for the colonists to be ready.
Compare and Contrast Essay Freedom, equality, and success are all similar but different views in life. In Patrick Henry's speech “Speech to the Virginia convention” he talked about how he believed people could achieve these beliefs. In a like manner so did John F Kennedy in his “inaugural speech”. Both JFK and Patrick Henry viewed freedom, equality, and success in very similar but different ways.
