In November 1918, the War to End All Wars ended. Americans never imagined being in another world war. Others from other countries hoped it would be the last world war. Until about 20 years later, 1939 marked the start of another world war. This world war is known as World War II, but its time was also known as the “Greatest Generation”.
World War 1 was one of the most inclusive and deadly wars in history. The war brought a series if new machines and techniques to warfare. World War 1 was known as the war to end all wars but, sadly it didn’t. The treaty of versailles was not a good plan to ensure peace and prosperity in Europe. The Treaty of Versailles was not a good plan for European peace because all parties that signed the treaty did not agree with it, Germany was forced to pay majority of the debt, and the economy in Europe plumited.
Imperialism made World War 1 inevitable. Imperialism is a policy by which a country extends its power by gaining control over other parts of the world through diplomacy or military force. This made World War 1 inevitable because many countries such as Germany wanted to be a mercantilistic nation. Mercantilism is the economic theory that trade generates wealth and is stimulated by the accumulation of profitable balances. To become a mercantilistic nation Germany tried taking over Morocco so they would have control over the Strait of Gibraltar.
“The second World War took place not so much because no one won the first, but because the Versailles Treaty did not acknowledge this truth”, (Paul Johnson). On July 28th, 1914 a life changing event occurred, World War 1(WW1). There have been many reasonable explanations for the cause of WW1. That really doesn’t matters except for the fact that many countries were fighting each other over the span of 4 years. There were two sides to the war.
New weapons and technology were enhanced and more progressed. This caused the number of casualties to increase. World war I was the most deadliest war of all. Before the war had started, many European leaders believed if they created a balance of power, it could prevent conflict happening. Although, conflict did follow.

The conditions set for a major shift in power caused by Italian and German unification. This unification brought many new leaders of great power such as Victor Emmanuel II and Otto Von Bismarck. With newfound land, power, and wealth, Bismarck felt invincible and began to seek war and form alliances.
During the 20th century in European nations, countries fought amongst each other in the First World War. The causes of this war and disputed upon to this day, but three of the causes are definitely: The concept of the countries already prepared for war, the strong sense of nationalism, and the prominent amount of national power. All throughout Europe, even in the days of peace before the war, the countries were prepared to fight each other. Individuals saw war as a necessity for life itself (Doc 1). Most nations talked about fighting, but never really acted.
When World War 1 broke out in 1914, the United States attempted to remain neutral and was a strong advocate the neutral rights of nations. The U.S. liked to believe that the war was strictly a European conflict, but they would soon understand that they were inadvertently part of the war effort and entering war was inevitable. The U.S. was never truly neutral in the first place, but in fact supporting Europe the whole time. The reasons for breaking neutrality were more political and economic. It was the United States best interest to abandon its neutrality, and choose to go to war on the side of the allies for the future protection of American assets and welfare.
World War I started in the heart of the Progressive era. The Progressive era was a time of efficiency, economic growth, and skill. By “1914 [the United States had] produced over one-third of the world’s manufactured goods,” (Foner, 680) making the U.S. “the leading industrial power” (Foner, 680). Europeans had already “complained of an “American invasion” of steel, oil, agricultural equipment, and consumer goods” (Foner, 680). At this time, America had both the economy and population to produce enough soldiers, supplies, and money to win any war.
World War I brought about many new things, however as we have seen, some did not last very
WW1 is known as the first modern war because it saw the incorporation of mechanical weapons. The Central Powers and Allies both used a variety of weapons such as machine guns, chemical weapons , clothing, biplanes, artillery, tanks, grenades, and rifles. These weapons were state of the art for the early 20th century. These weapons caused casualties to skyrocket as the Allies and the Central Powers were in a stalemate.
The Unpreventable Great War World War I was one of the most devastating and destructive events that occurred during history. It was inevitable to happen due to three main factors including, militarism, nationalism, and alliances between certain countries. However, there are other people who believe that World War I was not inevitable and could have been prevented through certain measures. This source describes that World War I could have been prevented if there were more stable and successful negotiations between countries. However, due to the lack of peaceful negotiations between certain countries, many conflicts arose because of desires to expand military and navels.
As a comparison, in my opinion, World War I was more avoidable as the triggers and causes were not as sophisticated as the World War II. Conflict between In World War 1, the Central Powers (including Germany, Austria-Hungary, and Turkey) and the Allied Powers (France, Britain, Russia, Italy, Japan, and (from 1917, the U.S.) opposed each other. This is called the
World War I (WWI) and World War II (WWII) had many causes. They also had many devastating effects on the world. They both have one main similarity and difference for both the causes and effects of the wars. The main similarity in the causes of both wars was imperialism, but the main difference was that WWII had appeasement; the main similarity in the effects of both wars was that there were many political tensions leftover that caused another war, but the main difference was that after WWII, the United Nations (UN) was created.
The First World War ended on November 11th, 1918 when the German government signed an armistice treaty with the Allied powers, leaving 9 million soldiers dead and 21 million wounded. This has lead World War I to be commonly known as the “war to end all wars”. There several key reasons as to why the Central Powers lost the war. Generally, it was a mixture of the Central Powers weakness and the Allied power’s strength. However, more specifically, the Central Powers had weak and unreliable Allies such as Austro - Hungary and the Ottoman Empire which both collapsed, leaving Germany isolated.
