He talks about the definition, examples, and what will happen if we let indifference continue. Reading a part of “The Perils of Indifference" has opened my eyes to the true meaning and effect of indifference on society. Elie Wiesel, the man who gave this speech, claimed the definition of this word as meaning “no difference”.
Equality is when everyone is given the same opportunities
Many teenagers often ask themselves who they are and what they believe. As they search for an answer, they slowly begin to build their identity. The principles that underlie the universe of obligation allows adolescents to continue to find their identity. Because of this, impressions or previous stereotypes conceived then usually stays with them until adulthood. Elie Wiesel’s Night and Helen Fein’s Universe of Obligation helps allows teens to understand the world around them.
Equality is a great idea that we should strive for and achieve; however, being made equal physically and mentally by the government could be very unfair. People should still have characteristics that make us different. One can be diverse but still equal to his neighbor. In the years of the Holocaust, darkness shadowed the Jewish people. They were forced to be ripped apart from their families, they were starved to the point of death, and they were overall dehumanized. These traumatizing events inspired Elie Wiesel to write his memoir, Night, which caused him to give a detailed record of the horrors of humanity that he endured. This also played a part in his speech “The Perils of Indifference”. Unfortunately, the world is not filled with light.
The story, Harrison Bergeron really shows the importance of diversity and for every individual to have a right to be unique. The government trying to make every thing completely fair is actually unfair to people who can 't get any excitement in a world like this. Limiting peoples thinking will also strongly slow any advances in technology, maybe even to a stop, so they might never solve some of the very important problems they face. Same with strength, if someones is in danger to an animal or a malfunctioning machine they will need to be able to escape. So really a world thats completely fair is impossible to create.

In the world right now, there is still inequality for all. People are criticized everyday because of how they look, speak, dress, act, etc. In America, although there is people that are changing, there with always be that small group of people that won’t change their views on what they believe is right and wrong in our society. You can also see this in the book, To Kill A Mockingbird, written by author, Harper Lee. All throughout the novel, you can see how white people are superior to the African Americans that live in the same town.
The best way to summarize the novel Night, by Elie Wiesel, is to use the word “humanity” because of the way that Ellie struggles to preserve his own humanity as he experiences death camp, Auschwitz. Humanity is best defined as “the quality of being humane; kindness; benevolence.” Throughout Night, Elie display’s and contrasts how humanity and inhumanity are both key elements at the camp. This is the most effective way to summarize Night, for a multitude of reasons. Elie’s choices to include stories about the young boy’s hanging, his own father’s death, and the young boy who runs away from his father, are great examples of why humanity is one of the key principles in the book.
Equality believes in the freedom of exploration, creation, and the act of doing by oneself as despised by his brothers who believe all acts should be done together as group. Not doing so shall be evil to them and considered threatening as Equality believes it is acceptable whether you do it or not. This is the disparity of Equality and his peer’s
and I am helping a marginalized group, I often approached the situation with an underlying savior complex. I assumed that the people I helped through various volunteer organizations needed me to survive. Now I realize that my job as a privileged ally is not to take space. It is to help empower the marginalized undocumented immigrants by providing them with resources I have access too, doing the background work for campaigns, and allowing them to be the face of the movement. Therefore, I cannot allow my work as an ally to be self-defined.
The people of the United States fight and strive for an absolute “equal” society, but is it what’s really wanted? “Harrison Bergeron,” a short story written by Kurt Vonnegut, uses satire to describe the deficiency in our idea of a truly “equal” society. Throughout the story, Vonnegut describes the torture and discomfort the government administers among the people, and though they were “equal,” they were not balanced. Vonnegut uses characterization and word choice to warn his readers of the potential drawbacks of a truly “equal” society. He warns normalcy would become the base of thought, and people would become incapable of emotion.
