I attended the concert in Punta Gorda on October 19th at The Charlotte Performing Arts Center. The concert presented the Port Charlotte High School Wind Orchestra followed by Florida Gulf Coast University Wind Orchestra. FGCU’s wind orchestra was conducted by Dr. Rod Chesnutt. The first piece they played was Danse Bacchanale (1877) by Camille Saint-Sales from “Samson and Deliliah”. The final piece performed was Jug Blues and Fat Pickin (1986) by Don Freund.
On October 29, I attended the Professor Harry F. and Mary Ruth Jackson Lunch Hour Series. While I was at the Lunch Hour series, I had the pleasure of watching Elizabeth Carville Evans and Valerie Ludlum Wright perform. Elizabeth played the flute and Valerie played the piano. The two performed individually and together, which showed the audience the beauty of both instruments individually, and how well they accompanied each other.
On Wednesday, the 18th of May, I attended and participated in the Final Band Concert of the year. Throughout the year, all band students continually practice pieces and the Final Band Concert is the only concert to have every band student in it from fifth grade all the way up to twelfth. This concert is always very special because it is both the first large concert for the fifth graders and the last for many students. The concert started from the Fifth Grade Band, then to the Junior 6th Grade, Advanced 7th and 8th Grade band, and finally to the High School Concert Band. The concert began exactly on time at 19:00.
Wood produces the heaviest and least expensive paddles. If you’re a new player or you’re not sure of investing in an expensive equipment, you can opt for a wood paddle. I still own a wooden pickleball paddle that I bought over a decade ago, and it’s still in great shape. Composite paddles fall in the medium range paddle category. They are moderately priced and come in a wide range of weights and sizes.
Shells, rattles, whistles, horns, bells, and drums were the instruments
African musical instruments purchased on the Guinea coast were played on board the ships. Due to this the knowledge of several African instruments reached America, in particular North America. These instruments include the one-string West African bowed lutes, two-stringed plucked lutes, flutes and drums. An eighteenth-century “African drum” from Virginia is held in the British Museum. This goblet-shaped single-headed drum is only known from the Guinea Coast.
At several instances throughout the play, Berniece reiterates with 100 percent certainty that nothing that Boy Willie can do will make her sell the piano. Even when the white man offers Berniece a good amount of money to buy the piano, the piano remains as something irreplaceable to Bernice. So why is the piano so important to Berniece? Looking at the history of the piano, the reader is shown the death of Boy Charles to acquire it and the three generations carved into the piano that displays their family history. But the deciding factor whether to or not to sell the piano is a result of Berniece’s relationship with her mother, and this is clearly shown on page 52.
To many people not familiar with the sport of lacrosse, a men’s game is just like a women’s game. There does not seem to be too many differences. That is the case in most sports. The only difference is the uniform and the gender. However, this is not true for the sport of lacrosse.
The Well Tuned Piano is a piece for solo piano and the entire duration of the work is 6 and a half hours. The music is composed of Just Intonation and is improvised by the composer La Monte Young. The composer also performs himself. During the song, the modern concert grand piano is played in just intonation pure toning. The sounds are completely controlled, and the composer exploits the constitution of pitch.
Music has a powerful impact on people, and can change people in a dramatic way. When people go to concerts, they don’t only listen to the music being played, they also look at what music and songs they are playing or singing, and the order of the songs. The order of the concert has an effect over whether the audience will enjoy the music or not. Above, I listed what I think the order of the songs should be. The concert repertoire should be in this certain order, based on our concert’s intended purpose, what our audience is feeling during the concert, and what Christmas means to each individual in the audience and performing.
In addition the string and wind instruments have soft tones that couple with her voice to give the version a dreamy feel. In comparison, Kamakawiwo’oles timbre is pure, soft and breathy, that also gives a dreamy feel in the beginning of the piece. As the song continues however the Ukulele begins to dominate with a lusher and fuller timbre. In contrast, the timbre of the piano in Tatum’s version differs greatly from the soft timbre of Kamakawiwo’oles voice, because it is dense and has strong articulations.
Introduction I began my field experience with the mindset that due to the fact that I have been working with kids within several other organizations I would not learn anything new. My perspective quickly changed as I faced new challenges and was given new insight that I had not encountered before. I was given the privilege of interacting with children of all ages simultaneously and most importantly I was able to apply educational concepts I have learned within this semester in real life scenarios. During this field experience I made several connections to concepts I will definitely encounter as a future educator such as the following fundamental topics: cognitive development, gifted students, motivation, and lack of student diversity.
The Lovell High School Concert Band had an amazing concert on the 30th of November. The songs included Celebration and Tribute, Sleigh Ride, Spirit of the Highlands, with a bonus of the combined band on Jinge, Jinge, Jingle. While all the songs were good, they were not spectacular. One that stands out to me is Celebration and Tribute. While Celebration and Tribute is not an extremely a technical piece, it still has its moments of fast notes and rhythms.
Works that will serve as the basis of comparison include Four Etudes for Piano, Op.
