Joseph Campbell once said, “a hero is someone who has given his or her life to something bigger than oneself.” Heroes always keep going and never give up. They focus on doing the right thing even if it is not satisfying everyone. Heroes go above and beyond to save the people. They are willing to sacrifice themselves for everyone else. Heroes always do what is right when needed, they are not fearless but they are brave, and they help people if they their is a great sacrifice. Heroes always do what is right when needed. To illustrate, Pat Tillman gave up the career that he loved to go serve for our country after 9/11. He was an amazing football player on the Cardinals. Then 9/11 happened and he decided to join the army. He saved many lives. Tillman said, “Somewhere inside, we hear a voice, it leads us in the direction of who we wish to become. But it is up to us whether or not to follow it.” Pat Tillman will always be an amazing hero no matter what. Finally, the last hero is Chesley Sullenberger. Sully was a pilot. He took off from the airport and both of the engines on the plane were damaged by a bird strike. He saved every person on board by landing the plane in the Hudson River. He saved 155 lives on that plane and he was terrified to do it but he was brave. Everyone on the plane survived, no one died because of Sully. Abraham Lincoln is one of the most known people in early american history, he has been known for being the president of the USA during the civil war. Abe has always been against slavery. During he was the president he was against slavery and became an abolitionist during his terms. Which started the civil war.
A hero displays acts of courage, and he definitely did that. Going off to war, far away from home and your family is not something that just anyone is brave enough to do, but Chris Kyle was different. He was very brave and courageous. He was a sniper, meaning that he would sit for long periods of time by himself in a dangerous area all so that we could live in safety (“American Sniper”). That is a huge display of bravery and supporting reason that he is a hero.

With the copious amount of research obtained, Chris Kyle is a prime example of what being a hero should look like. He has faced and overcome many challenges in his life and has received plenty of recognition for his hard work. Through his perseverance, he was able to make a difference and help other people with their challenges and protect American citizens with his superlative shooting skills.

President Lincoln was elected to power at a time when the country was at the verge of civil war caused by the divisions between the country’s south and the north. During his reign, between the years 1861 to 1865, Lincoln fearlessly led the union through the civil war and strove to liberate the country from slavery, foster equality and reconcile the divisions that had put the country to war. Sullenberger is a true hero because he guided a plane full of passengers to safety after his plane encountered maintenance issues. In the text, “What is Heroism”, it states, “heroism may be an almost instantaneous reaction to a situation.” This relates to Sullenberger’s actions because he used quick-thinking to land the plane and its 155 passengers on the Hudson River safely. In the text, “A Hudson River Hero” it says Sullenberger “safely landed his disabled jetliner… saving the lives of all 155 people onboard.” This proves Sullenberger is a hero because he used good judgment in an instant decision involving not only his own life but the lives of the passengers and his fellow crew members also.
