One would never know how profound reading original documents for a class that was taking for mere boredom can be. America Views the Holocaust 1933-1945: A Brief Documentary History, by historian Robert Abzug, did indeed change my thoughts and possibly altered my degree selection. I came to be fascinated by the historical presentation of Abzug and the essays, which focus on whether or not history is true and the denial of one of the most horrific events in the world. Being exposed to their essays while reading Taking Sides: America Views the Holocaust 1933-1945: A Brief Documentary History for one of the classes I am taking this semester. I have never been much of a reader but somehow, the essays, documents and stories both encouraged my thinking and question my belief in historical truths. If anything, the truths that were presented are capable of making one see history through different eyes. Abzug states in the Preface, the book "offers a selection of original documents that illustrate the varied …show more content…
However what is majorly overlooked is the fact that the most famous athlete of his time, his outstanding displays of athletic abilities at the 1936 Olympic Games that captivated the world even as it infuriated the Nazis. Despite the racial slurs he endured, Jesse Owens ' grace and athleticism rallied crowds across the globe. But when the four-time Olympic gold medalist returned home, he could not even ride in the front of a bus. The events that followed in Germany, namely the Holocaust and World War II overshadowed the Berlin games. However, it is very important that a world gathering like the Olympics could take place in a country that was in the process of eliminating an entire race of people and yet the world stood

Strong people work hard for their families to keep them alive as they run into many difficult conflicts. The Holocaust was a dark and scary period of time. Many people risked their lives for their family, friends, and country. Mostly everyone worked hard together to fight the terrible conflicts and struggles of the war. Like the Holocaust, the Western Expansion had many different problems.
Although the holocaust is the most famous genocide in history, it was certainly not the only one. The first recorded genocide was Maori in 1835, although there were many before then with historian finding mass graves, that they believe to be the result of genocide as early as 1200 AD. Some aren’t even known to history as there is no record of their existed until years later when histories find a group of people that were suddenly erased from history, or when they find mass graves. All genocides are different but all have the same end goal/result, the majority; race, religion, class, wants to get rid of those they consider less than themselves. Hitler rose to power after the first world, the German government was weak and the people wanting
How did Hitler gain so much power over human beings? How did very few people have the courage to escape or avoid the concentration camps? This quarter we have read many text on the Holocaust and it survivors and their ability to escape the concentration camps. In the historical text read this quarter, they show many types of themes and lessons of the stories. The Holocaust Eleven million innocent people gone in the blink of an eye. The Holocaust was a toxic time period in which millions of Europeans lost their lives due to the belief that Anglo-Saxons were “racially superior”. This twelve yearlong misery began once a man named Adolf Hitler came to power in Germany. Jews were the main group targeted because they were believed to have caused all economic problems but, they were not the only ones. Homosexuals, Jehovah’s Witnesses, Romans, and people who were disabled were all some of the groups targeted during the Holocaust.
In my opinion, I believe people can treat people so horribly because they either do not believe what they believe and hate that group so much that they will go to an extent. In the Holocaust, Hitler strongly disliked the Jews and other groups that he did not tolerate. One reason was because the Nazi party believed the Jews were the reason that they lost World War I. Hitler did not tolerate any other group than his, and his hatefulness showed while he killed millions of Jews in concentration camps during World War II. Hitler humiliated the Jews by making them wear the Star of David. The only reason why the Jews were released from the concentration camps was that the US invaded Germany , so if the US hadn’t invaded Germany who knows how
The Holocaust, people were tortured and killed all because people were jealous. People get mad when someone does better than them (Jews). For 4 years people suffered through tough labor and malnutrition. People in today’s society some people are just mean to be mean. At first in Anne’s diary Peter didn’t like Anne because she was loud and obnoxious, some people have a short temper and can get mad easy.
To prevent an inaccurate account of history, an additional attitude towards history is needed. Though the “winner’s” view of American history is a standard viewpoint, the perspective of the victims, the “losers” adds a new and essential element to historical events if one is to have the most accurate account of the event. For example, the war in Vietnam, from the mindset of the American, seems a necessary evil to fight communism in Asia. However, when considering the war from the mentality of the Vietnamese people, one sees a brutal and unjust attack that killed soldiers and civilians alike. As quoted in A People’s History, a dispatch from Saigon read, “Many Vietnamese--one estimate is as high as 500--were killed by the strikes.
The Holocaust was one of many terrible events that occurred in the 1900s. This began on January 30, 1933, when Adolf Hitler came to power in Germany and ended on May 8, 1945, when the war in Europe was officially over. During those years, Germany was ruled under Adolf Hitler’s Nazi Regime. This was a horrible time for Jews. Adolf Hitler felt that Jews dishonored German culture and that Aryans were the superior race.
Rather than protesting ‘Hitler’s Games’ Owen used his position in the spotlight to display the greatness and compassion that can be achieved outside of the political and cultural constraints of society” ( Jesse Owens). Owens played it smart in the Olympics. He used his popularity to show people what can be achieved with greatness and
One of the most tragic events in history, the Holocaust, has become a major topic for many writers. Many writers will write on this topic to either give facts and inform others about the event, or to give opinions and feelings of others and themselves on the event. When a text is written and it informs the reader of facts and information about the event, it is written objectively. If the author writes a text about feelings and opinions on the event, the text is written subjectively. An objectively written text about the holocaust will give the reader a very different feeling and thought process than a subjectively written text.
The Holocaust The Holocaust was about a systematic killing and they murdered over six million jews by the nazi regime. Holocaust is a word of greek and it means “Sacrifice by fire”. The nazi’s believed that germans were “racially superior and the jews deemed “inferior”. The jews were killed by Adolf hitler and his collaborators.
Silence is known as the lack of sound: the lack of words. It is also a well known fact that words can be dangerous, as people can spread false rumors and hate speech. However, silence, though it is a lack of words, can prove to be even more dangerous than the words of hate themselves. Reason being, though the silence can not be used to spread the hate, it does not do anything to prevent or stop the hate from happening. One of the best examples of the danger of silence is the Holocaust.
