The president directs the executive branch of the federal government and is the commander-in-chief of the United States Armed Forces.
In contemporary times, the president is looked upon as one of the world's most powerful political figures and as the leader of the only remaining global superpower.[11][12][13][14] The role includes responsibility for the world's most expensive military that has the second largest nuclear arsenal. The executive branch includes and is led by the President of the United States of America. Furthermore, this branch also includes the cabinet, executive, and independent agency departments. The President is able to veto the proposition of a new law and designate federal judges and federal posts. The President is also given the power to grant forgiveness to a crime that has been committed. As well as negotiate with foreign countries and treaties about situations and certain topics.
George Washington was the first president and he selected the location in which the White House would be built in 1971. President John Adams and his wife moved into it after eight years of cunstruction in 1800. During 1812 though, it had to be rebuilt after the British set fire to it. Inside, there are 132 rooms, 35 bathrooms, 3 elevators, 8 staircases, and 6 levels! Before Theodore Rosevelt gave it it's current name, it was also known as "The President's Palace", "President's House", and "Executive Mansion".
Even with certain restrictions and checks of power the president still maintain some significant areas of power over congress such the ability to veto legislation passed by congress. This ability grants the president a significant amount of power over the legislative process in the U.S as ultimately he is able to set the agenda of the country’s political schedule, and determine the direction of the country’s political schedule. Along with the ability to enact vetoes without the interference of a hostile congress uncooperative congress. The president also posses the ability to set the agenda for what legislation to recommend to congress and to what priority level each recommendation should be given. This power does come with its limits though as most situations do not give the president the ultimate authority to force congress to address his proposal and he must instead convince congress to address his issue with priority.
The president has many roles but, the most important one I think is being the Commander in Chief of are armed forces. As the Commander in Chief the president can mobilize military forces as see to protect critical choke points, interest, or allies to the United States. The War Power Resolution of 1973 helps give the president the authority to take action and mobilize the military. Now there are checks and balance to this act as there is in anything with are government. The first check and balance is having to notify congress within forty-eight hours of military mobilization.
The executive branch enforces laws in the United States. The executive branch is made up of the President, the Vice President, the Cabinet, the power of the executive branch is vested in the President of the United States, who also acts as head of state and Commander-in-Chief of the armed forces. The president and vice president both share a four year term limit, but if re elected they would serve an eight year sentence. The president can end up spending millions of dollars on their campaign. The president have many, many powers granted by the Constitution. Some powers require agreements between the president and congress and some don't. Solely speaking, the president have the power to negotiate and sign treaties with other countries as well as make trade agreements with nations that lie on the pacific rim such as Australia, Canada, Japan, Mexico, Vietnam and etc. The president have the power to veto a bill passed by Congress although Congress can override that veto with a 2/3 vote and that bill becomes law. He/she serves as the commander in chief in the armed forces and the state militia and can deploy troops.

Chief Executive, in this role the president decides on how laws are enforced, and he has the duty of appointing officials. The remaining roles are Chief Diplomat, Chief Legislature, Chief of party, chief guardian of the economy, and most importantly Commander in Chief (Scholastic, 1989).
In both countries, the president as head of the government appoints ambassadors, signs treaties and agreements, veto laws passed by the legislative branch, and participate in international discussions. As Commander in Chief of the military, each president guides military actions around the world. Each country has a cabinet that serves underneath the president to advise on their respective matters.
