Being Fostered: Big Effects On Children

Studies have shown that thirty percent of children in foster care remain in care for more than two years. The longer children stay in care the more placements they are likely to experience. More than half the children who enter the foster care system will be moved to a different home in their first six months. It is also found that children care for more than two years will experience about three different placements. Nearly all of the moves have nothing to do with bettering the well being of the child. Many of the placements are done to carry out the systems policies and other placements are done if foster parents don’t meet the child needs. Children are less likely to be moved many times if a foster family is prepared to meet the child 's challenging needs. The foster care system is also in need of more social workers that will ensure that the child is placed in a good family so that they are not moved several times. Plenty of placements are also done if the child is initially placed in short-term care but needs to be moved to long term. However, the more changes a child experiences decreases the chance of them returning home or being adopted. Based on the problem regarding the limited space of shelters unable to support numerous number of strays, a foster program can be introduced. This is one of the program that can help to improve the life of homeless pets.

“Not everyone can become a foster parent but anyone can help a foster child” is one of the most famous slogans out of all time describing how not everyone is stable to become a parent but can help a child in need. Many people wonder which is easier. Becoming a foster parent or an adoptive parent? There are many children in need of homes and loving and in need of someone that’s there for them.

Growing up in foster care can be challenging, then transitioning out of foster care into the real world can be extremely difficult without the acquired skills and the support of family. It may seem as though there are too many odds and statics stacked up against you, waiting for you to fail. My injustice project helps to address these issues through mentoring and building relationships letting them now that they are important and can do anything they set their mind to accomplish. Foster care has been a part of society for centuries and can even be traced back to the Old Testament. This alternative living situation came about in the United States around 1853. It was a safe haven for children who were abused, neglected, orphaned, or even homeless immigrants. This optimal living was a new and improved version of public housing for the poor. With foster care children could be placed with real families that would care for them and in these homes they would have the opportunity to learn life skills and lessons that would help better themselves so one day they have the chance

Regardless of the situation, removal from parents can affect immediate and future mental and developmental health of the child (Bruskas, 2008).
