Bruno has always shown this carefree type of attitude, but it all changes when Shmuel starts getting yelled at. The entire time before Lieutenant Kotler walks in, Bruno talks about random things that have nothing to do with the situation that is occurring. For example, Shmuel was watching Bruno eat and was afraid that he was going to get in trouble, meanwhile, Bruno had no idea, saying, "Can you believe he’s never even read Treasure Island? ” (Boyne) like this is a normal occurrence in his life.
