In the article of the week The Wrong Way to “Think about California Water” by Michael Hiltzik, Hiltzik explains why we are thinking about California's water the wrong way. He gives several reasons why we are thinking about California's drought the wrong way that seem to significant , but my family can cut back on water usage using these same principles. First, even when he said that water bottles are not the significant causes of water usage they still are a portion of that water usage. A way we could save water is to finish all that water, drink only when we're thirsty, and give any leftover water to the plants, making it a double win. Another way we could save water is to use more drought resistant plants, or fake plants.
This article touches base on one of numerous ongoing issues in California right now, drought. The author travels to a few of the various counties that are feeling this drought the greatest. Meanwhile, he also interviews a few farmers on the issues, to get their opinion on the drought. “Generally, farms established before 1914 get their water allotment before farms with lower-priority rights.” (Richtel, page 6).
In the article “California Drought: Governor Jerry Brown Issues Water Rules” for the Cable News Network, Ray Sanchez explains how Governor Jerry Brown is taking drastic measures to reduce California’s water usage. To do that, he has established many rules and restrictions on the people of California, as well as its businesses and farms. Governor Brown states that this drought needs extraordinary actions, as it has shown in the Sierra Nevada Mountains which has lost snow and are now covered with dry and brown grass. I agree with Sanchez and Governor Brown about imposing these rules and restriction on the people of California because these restrictions are going to help guide California out of the drought or at least help maintain and not let this drought get any worse than it already is. I agree with the author because in the article he provides good support to show why these rules need to be enacted upon
“I hated Martin more than others,because of his belly” Nick Vaca says in his story, Martin, which is about how the author reenacts the memory with visual language and specific word choices to give a picture on what he has a lasting impression on, which is an encounter with a boy named Martin. It became evident that the narrator, seemed to remember the scene perfectly, which shows how he still remembers it, which might indicate some sort of mark or impression left after experiencing the encounter. Near the end of the book, Nick might of seen that he had the wrong idea about Martin, which could of let his past experience affect his eyes metaphorically on Martin. Nick starts off the story with the first details, but more importantly, shows his point of view. Before he has his first interaction with the name Martin, he might of already have a point of view on where he lives, as it was not very wealthy.
Reisner dedicates an entire chapter to the dirty water politics that embodies the state of California. In this excerpt from chapter ten, the audience is almost able to feel the utter disgust that Reisner holds towards the gluttonous Californian water politics: "The whole state thrives, even survives, by moving water from where it is, and presumably isn't needed, to where it isn't, and presumably is needed. No other state has done as much to fructify its deserts, make over its flora and fauna, and rearrange the hydrology God gave it. No other place has put as many people where they probably have no business being. There is no place like it anywhere on earth.
In Charles Fishman’s this chapter of the book, “The Big Thirst,” he says that on average five thousand kids die a day because of the lack of clean water. This means that over five hundred kids in an elementary school in ten elementary schools are dying each day. In Orma, Tennessee the town ran out of water and had to have volunteer fire fighters drive to a nearby city every couple days ten times just so that the town could have water for three hours each day. The forty families that lived in the town ran out of water and was only allowed water for three hours each day. As Fishman says “water can’t be used up”.

In the 1800s, the first national debate occurred over the idea of damming Hetch Hetchy. The two sides include Preservationists who wanted to preserve Hetch Hetchy and Conservationist who believed that we should take advantage of the resources Hetch Hetchy provides. This created conflicts between the Conservationists and the Preservationists over the thought of building a dam in Hetch Hetchy. However, the Preservationists ultimately failed to convince Congress to stop the damming of the Hetch Hetchy due the ability to make money off the reservoir and the resources Hetch Hetchy provides that would benefit the people of San Francisco.
