Manson Murders “I have X’d myself from your world” .A phrase that protruded out of the mouth of Charles Manson in retaliation to the decision that he may not defend himself in his case. Manson carved an x in his forehead the night before his hearing .The Tate-la Bianca murders are still referred to today for their gruesomeness and brutality .An examination of primary and secondary sources will reveal the significance of this key event in American history. Charles Manson was born on November 12, 1934 to Kathleen Maddox .Charles had no father he was named No Name Maddox, until his mother met William Manson. Kathleen would marry William and move out several times; giving Charles a very unstable childhood .At the young age of five Manson was exposed to the law for the first time when his mother was arrested. She was charged with arson and burglary, and was sent to prison .He was soon abandoned and was forced to live in many boys’ homes (Steffens, Staples pg.7).
