Dayshun Selmon Professor Simmons ENC 1101 6/22/15 Basketball Greatness Most people feel like a great Nba player is someone that can score the most points, or someone that is the flashiest on the basketball court. I will be the first one to disagree. I feel like a great Nba player is someone who is a leader, a hard worker, and last but not least is someone that has no fear on the basketball court. The person to me that best fit those descriptions is Nba player Chris Paul. One of the qualities that stick out to me about Chris Paul is his leadership. One of the ways Chris shows leadership is during the pregame before they are about to start playing I watch Chris on TV giving his teammates a motivational speech to get them hyped and ready to play the game. Another way Chris Paul demonstrate …show more content…
When Chris was hurt, he was still on the bench giving his teammates advice and cheering them on throughout the games. To me, that was a great moment that showed Chris Paul leadership. Another attribute that made Chris the great Nba player that he is today is his hard work ethic. A way that Chris shows his hard work ethic is by being the first one to practice on his team and the last one to leave. To me, that demonstrates how much Chris wants to be the best at his craft. Another way Chris shows that he a hard worker is by his drive to study film looking for the weakness of the opposing basketball team. In pregame warm-ups before a game, Chris works on his jump shot by taking countless practice jump shots to get himself prepare for the game. That show how hard Chris works to become a great player. Last but not least, what really put Chris Paul over the top as a great Nba player to me was his nonfearfulness on the basketball court. I watched Chris on TV and he never looks afraid to guard the opposing team best player. Chris always wanted to take up the challenge of guarding the opposing team best
In “Oklahoma’s Trae Young, the Superstar Nobody Saw Coming” by Marc Tracy, the author discusses the sudden, unexpected rise of Trae Young, the University of Oklahoma’s starting point guard. The 6’2 guard from Norman North Highschool has put up spectacular numbers thus far into the college season. The author completely illustrates Young’s success by explaining his motivation, his opportunity, and most importantly, his results. Trae Young’s skill has been known ever since his early high school days. Young was ranked 23rd in the class of 2017.
Winning is fun, however it must get boring if all your team does is destroy your opponent. This is the University of Connecticut (also known as UConn) women’s basketball team with a win streak of 111 games that was heartbreakingly ended in the semifinals of the 2017 NCAA tournament with a 66-64 loss to Mississippi State. Jan Diehm, the author of “111 Wins and Counting,” writes about this streak and claims that the UConn women’s basketball team is one of the best college teams to ever compete, in the newspaper The Guardian. Diehm believes that this success is due to the skill of each player on the team and their ability to execute the coach’s plan. She supports this claim through her use of statistics, quotes and logic.
Chris spent his life surrounded by people. Whenever someone was around, didn’t matter who, he would start up a conversation. He was a real people pleaser, always telling stories
Gary "The Great" Living the life of Gary Trent Jr. isn't an easy life to live. Growing up in Apple Valley, a town home to the Minnesota Timberwolves finest, Tyus Jones. Gary tries to make a name for himself, and succeeds by being ranked number five in the US for boy's basketball players. Going from the court, to college visits, and big decision making, it may seem nice watching all the success from the outside, but there's so much more to it. The reason why I wanted to interview Gary is because of all the exposure and attention Gary has gotten in his basketball career.
He was a straight a student, he was placed in a gifted student program. He knew of his talents. He was a Role model and a leader on his cross country team. Making good impressions and good relationship with others Chris had a thirst for adventure physically and intellectually. He had a realistic Chris was a member of a big family.
From his incredibly uplifting speeches to his resilience to never give up no matter the circumstance, Kobe Bryant can inspire anyone, even if not a basketball player. On April 12, 2013, Kobe tore his Achilles while playing against a young Golden State Warriors team. Despite the devastating injury Kobe got up and shot, made two free throws, and walked back to the locker room on his own. Although this may seem like something only basketball players can relate to, it is not. It is something that anyone who has just felt like giving up because they were hurt, to be inspired to keep pushing through, no matter the pain.
As a human sometimes we come come across ideas in our head that seem so right or perfect at some points but in reality they are so wrong in different ways, as it is life we also seem to stumble into thing in our path. Sometimes I think of doing somethings that in my mind they play out right but as soon as someone else hears them they think of them stupid and I would listen but; Chris did not even want to listen to the advice that was given to him and thought he was smarter and more knowledgeable. I agree Callarman when he said that “Chris makes a lot of mistakes based on arrogance”.
To conclude my work. Kobe Bryant is one of the best players to ever play the game. He 's obsession to the game of Basketball never wavered even through the injuries he has encountered. Kobe Bryant is called the Black Mamba for a reason. You can never let your guard down when he 's your opponent because he will do everything it takes to beat you.
On another card, he also describes a boy who went out at night, after his parents told him not to, and was believed to be missing. When the boy returned home, his parents were excited and happy again, but the boy knew that he would still need to be grounded. This also displays his ability to distinguish and understand when you do something wrong there will be consequences to face. These themes also display that Chris has a clear understanding of what is expected of him now, and even in the future. It appears he has rules to follow and knows what to do when given clear, structured directions.
Chris never gave up on his hopes and dreams and his family guided him to
Although Chris was really passionate about his way of living he was too confident for his own good. Instead of listening to the people who tried to help him he'd brush them off because he thought he didn't need help and knew everything he needed to
The Jordan Influence When most people think about Michael Jordan, they think about him as the greatest basketball player who ever played. However, Jordan was not only a basketball player, but someone who influenced the American culture and society. Jordan’s influence was one that had never been seen before. Whether it was through basketball or his own brand, Jordan was making everyone want “to be like Mike”.
I am a big basketball fan of Chris Paul and he is the person my dream of becoming. He plays for Los Angeles Clippers right now. My first time to meet Chris was in the basketball game of Beijing Olympic. I was lucky to get the ticket which closed to the front. Although he was the shortest player on the team and only scored few points in that game, I ws impressed by his skills and leadership on the floor.
In 2012 Tour de France, a group of cyclist had their tyre punctured by saboteurs who threw tacks on the road. Bradley Wiggins was ahead due to the unexpected situation. Bradley Wiggins had a goal of being the first British rider to win the race. He had to make a decision to either achieve his goal or displaying sportsmanship by slowing down.
The performance of a leader is evident, more so in competitive games and matches. The leader’s performance can make or break the confidence of all the other team members. A sports leader has a three edged role. He should ensure player satisfaction, perform well himself and steer the group towards success.
