What comes to your mind when you think about Russia? Answering this question, most foreign people have following associations: very cold, bears, unfriendly people and, of course, vodka.
I am from Russia. I was born in North Caucasus, the southern part of the country, and lived the most part of my life in Moscow. The fact that I have been living in this country for 21 years probably gives me the right to claim that Russia is not limited by the things mentioned above. Moreover, the way people represent Russia or any other country to themselves is usually formed by stereotypes or, in other words, by the image of that particular country which can be disputable.
Reynolds (1965) describes the formation of an image as the development of a mental construct based on a few impressions chosen from the flood of information. So, what is the image itself, and namely the destination image? How is it formed? In this essay, I will research the aspects that shape the destination image and its role in tourist's decision making. Tourism is a powerful shaper of

Also, the familiarity and the complexity of the images held play a large role in this decision-making process.
Indeed, I agree that there are other factors apart from the destination image that also influences the tourist's decision. However, in my opinion, the perception of the destination is not just of crucial meaning but is the main motivation to whether visit the place or not. If we go back to the examples of different images provided above, it is obvious that a tourist choosing between romantic France and criminal Colombia would be highly likely to prefer France (although the examples here are extremely
This shows the increased distrust and continuing suspicion of Russia by American citizens, despite them having been allies in the war. Suspicion towards the Russian government reverts back to pre-war America, and Truman’s own viewpoint, put forth in 1941, that Russia and Germany were one and the same (Doc A). In turn, Truman’s suspicion that Russia was a dictatorship aided to the tension between the two countries, whose governmental policies already clashed and were inherently filled with
Another example that created skepticism about Russia to the U.S. and other countries, was when there was a vote by the U.N. Security council on a resolution to “condemn the chemical weapon attack in Syria”(Source F). The resolution failed because Russia vetoed it. This was a very serious thing that finally made everyone realize how dangerous Russia really is. U.S. Ambassador Nikki Kelly stated that “Russia once again has chosen to side with Assad, even when the rest of the world, overwhelmingly comes together to condemn this murderous regime”(Source F). This shows that Russia does not have people on their side, a lot of countries are beginning to get very skeptical of them not just the United
By suppressing his opposition and taking advantage of others, Vladmir Putin has weakened the citizens of Russia. It is said that, “He manipulates the public consciousness like a talented conductor…” (Gromenko). Putin has dehumanized residents of Russia in countless ways, including his harassment of activists, censorship of the media, assassinations of journalists, etc. While Russia has been sufficiently prosperous over the years, its society lacks individuality and basic freedoms due to the conformity Putin encourages. Russians’ hopes and aspirations are crushed if they do not fit Putin’s
Geography At 17,075,200 square kilometers (6,592,800 sq. mi), Russia is the largest country in the world, covering more than one eighth of Earth's inhabited land area There are 23 UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Russia, 40 UNESCO biosphere reserves,41
Personally, I welcome freiendly relations, they're a wonderful thing to have, but when countries have repeatedly done things to go against the United Nations, NATO, and common decency, too much trust really is a thing. Not only has Russia dismantled its democracy, aided Assad's tyranny in Syria, invaded its neighbouring Slavic states, and restricted the free rights of its citizens, but they have been exposed for being behind numerous Wikileaks leaks throughout the election
BOOK REVIEW: "Should We Fear Russia?" by Dmitri Trenin Now, more than any time since the Cold War, does fear of Russia dominate the media. With its meddling in the 2016 election, citizens have become more aware of Russia and its ulterior motives to undermine United States democracy and legitimacy. Even though the public is realizing that Russia is not the fractured weak state it was after the Cold War, those in the international world know this is nothing new and part of Russia's 21st century playbook. Dmitri Trenin's "Should We Fear Russia?" was written in February 2016 but addresses many of the fears that have been dominating the media and political discussions since the election.
Many people who take trips to other countries use it to escape the boredom of their own life and to have fun in another country. Taking vacations can provide excitement when heading to different locales, give a person the tastes and sights of a new place, and overall provide a sense of pleasure to a tourist. However, there is an aspect of this that many tourists do not get to see. In her essay A Small Place, author Jamaica Kincaid makes this aspect very clear. Kincaid, along with many other natives of foreign islands, believes that tourists are “ugly human being[s]” who seemingly feed off the boredom and desperation of the natives of a certain place, creating a source of pleasure for themselves (Kincaid 262).
The purpose of this paper was the fact that Jamaica Kincaid felt as though tourism in the land are only seeing the greater good of the land that they were visiting. Tourists are not seeing the side where the native families are struggling to get by. Are they trying to persuade the reader to adopt a new belief or habit, or to stop doing something? Jamaica Kincaid is trying to persuade the readers of her essay to understand why tourism is such a bad thing.
“There is Putin and there is Russia, no Putin, no Russia.” Consider this statement, meant as a positive affirmation toward Vladimir V. Putin in 2014 by Russia’s then Deputy Chief of Staff, Vyacheslav Volodin. It was. What kind of leader is Vladimir Putin, considering this notion that Putin, or any leader, as the singular identity of an entire country? It is my claim that Vladimir Putin, through his own actions, decisions and behaviors, is a visionary and unethical leader.

The Wall Street Journal had given two reasons, which were the restriction of the sales and marketing on beer in Russia, and the Ukraine crisis that further hitting Russia’s economic growth and weakening the ruble. The Moscow Times also agreed with the fighting in Ukraine as one of the causes, but it gave a focus on the Western sanctions against Russia too. This comparison may explain the different focus on the topic “Russia” in local news and international news, as shown in two word clouds. In local viewpoint, they seemed to be more protective and viewed the deteriorating conditions in Russia are caused by external factors. In contrast, international viewed this matter as more on the responsibility of
Saint Petersburg, the setting of Crime and Punishment, plays a major role in the formation in Fyodor Dostoyevsky’s acclaimed novel. Dostoyevsky’s novels focus on the theme of man as a subject of his environment. Dostoyevsky paints 1860s St. Petersburg as an overcrowded, filthy, and chaotic city. It is because of Saint Petersburg that Raskolnikov is able to foster in his immoral thoughts and satisfy his evil inclinations. It is only when Raskolnikov is removed from the disorderly city and taken to the remoteness of Siberia that he can once again be at peace.
The first thing that an American would notice while walking in Russia is that the Russians appear to look angry/depressed and rarely crack a smile. This gives off the notion that the Russian people are cold-hearted, rude and unfriendly to the Americans. It even turned out to become a stereotype made by visitors who knew nothing about Russia 's culture and quickly generalized them as cold-hearted. They are not cold hearted in fact, they are one of the most generous societies once you get to know them. Going around smiling at random people is normal for us in the States ,but in Russia, they say that constant smiling and laughter without reason is an indication that the individual is touched in the head.
Through his role model of a true leader and his great charisma he influenced the Russian citizens to contribute towards his vision of a greater Russia. Vladimir Putin is seen, as a strong leader with brilliant psychological skills that had the power and will to make the decisions and take crazy risks, which he thought, was right for Russian citizens. He was highly people oriented since he new the culture and came from the same background as many Russian individuals and he new what they exactly needed and wanted in a president. But on the contrary his management background helped him to direct and control the Russian citizens by coordinating and harmonizing them to accomplish a mutual goal that was based on their needs and wants. Vladimir Putin created strategies, policies based on the Russian culture, values and views.
A time before the introduction of Internet, the consumer would visit a travel agency to review the tourist information, usually conveyed through the travel brochure, and select the options that most interested him. Today, one can no longer speak of this kind of tourism. The growing world population, evolution of tourist behavior and introduction of the internet has expanded the
