Othello and Emilia Many characters often change drastically throughout a story. A dynamic character is defined as one who undergoes an important inner change. In Othello, Emilia and Othello are two such characters. Both of these characters endured a lot of hardship throughout this play. Othello was a Venetian general who was a great leader. Emilia was the wife of Iago, who was a soldier in Othello’s army. Both of these characters change because of the evil done by Iago. Iago’s goal was to destroy Othello’s life, and he succeeded. He was also very unkind to his submissive and humble wife. Iago’s trickery to Othello and his abusiveness to his wife is what changed these characters.
