William Shakespeare’s “Romeo and Juliet,” discusses how people have both a monstrous and honorable side. Shakespeare demonstrates this by using syntax and figurative language in the soliloquy, “Romeo and Juliet”. In the soliloquy, a monk by the name Friar Laurence, talks about how everybody has a guilty and innocent side. In the story, the Montague and Capulet family are fierce rivals. The rivalry shows the dark side while the love of Romeo and Juliet shows light side of both families.
In short, the duplicity of Nora’s nature accounts for her morally ambiguous which serve as a major source of conflict to her relationship and the play 's plot as a hole. It is her ambiguity that keeps the reader from defining Nora and choosing a definitive side in the conflict. That is to say, that many readers find it hard to support Nora and her feministic rise above the societally accepted views of the time period when the question of her subsequent turn from family and her children also comes into view. One author that appreciates this is Shakespeare, and throughout his stories he incorporates this technique. His style consists of true love but also a hint of traumatic problems. When using this technique in Romeo and Juliet he creates a strong bond between two characters through figurative language in order to make that relationship genuine. Through the use of imagery, diction and hyperbole Shakespeare reveals the nature of Romeo and Friar Lawrence’s relationship as caring, trustworthy, and father – son like.
After eight years of marriage, what allows Nora to see that she must break free from the “Doll’s House”? “A Doll’s House” is a play written by Henrik Ibsen, set in late nineteenth century where women were expected to uphold social norms of being a submissive wife and a caring mother. In the beginning of the play, Nora is initially portrayed as a naive and obedient “doll” trapped inside of a “Doll’s House”, but towards the end of the play, Nora is able to come to the realisation that she was never happy during her eight years of marriage with Torvald, leading to her leaving Torvald and breaking free from the “Doll’s House”. In the first Act of A Midsummer Night's Dream, main characters are introduced in a way that sets the tone for the rest of the play. Egeus' first speech, found on lines 23 to 46, is a perfect example of this; through his speech themes of domination and control, and his accusatory themes, he affirms the accepted positions of power of his time. Language and grammar used here all give the reader an important first impression. Starting with the first line, Egeus states "Full of vexation come I". By placing the phrase "full of vexation" first, the vexation — vexation over the disobedience of his daughter — is emphasized.
In this essay I will be comparing two female characters from different texts and different time periods. We will be looking in depth at Lady Macbeth from Shakespeare 's play 'Macbeth ', and Sheila from J.B. Priestley 's 'An Inspector Calls '. Did you know that there is injustice in the play A Doll’s House by Henrik Ibsen? The men in A Doll’s House treat women differently than how they treat other men. To society at the time men were above women. This idea is supported by the way that Nora is treated like a child by her husband Torvald, the way Nora has to follow all her husband’s decisions, during that time period women didn 't typically have a job or education. When all of the evidence is presented the reader can, therefore, decided whether or not they agree that women are treated very unjustly compared to men.
Nora begins the play as a childlike character who is always happy and grateful; only afterwards we find out that she has a big secret that adds more maturity to the character. In a way, she shows us the span of life; you begin as a child and mature, as secrets get heavier which then causes you to figure out your personality.
