This statement is inaccurate as when we are raised in a world where everyone thinks the same and are hardly ever influenced by outside sources, choices we are forced into making can lead to a distorted idea of who we know ourselves to be. When we are forced into making choices that lead to us having this distorted identity we try to fight the identity we have created. This can be shown through both texts Jasper Jones and Pleasantville, as illustrated by Ruth Bucktin and the people who live in the town of Pleasantville. In the novel Jasper Jones we can see that choices we were once forced to make can lead to a distorted idea of who we know ourselves to be.
Making Connections Black and white compared to what's really right? Even though both the novel 1984 and the film Pleasantville are made in different times, they share the same ideals. The novel 1984 was written by george orwell and the film Pleasantville was written and directed by gary ross. In both 1894 and Pleasantville the ideas of conformity, intimacy, and leadership are challenged.

Change occurs every day involuntarily. When people encounter change they are limited to only two points of views on it, negatively or positively. Some may react by panicking and going into denial whereas others may try to adapt to it and make the best out of the situation. The past decade has not seen any notable family sitcoms that has surpassed such leaps of social justice as some had in the 1950’s or 1970’s. While that may be disappointing to some, this is also a great feat for all television audiences. So many issues that were once considered, “taboos,” now, can be the premise of the sitcom altogether. Even the little things like interracial couples, married partners in the same bed, and even mentioning a pregnant woman is considered normal. Throughout the movie “Pleasantville”, there are numerous social issues. This paper will look at and identify some of them, as well as defining the basic social issues and how they relate to the movie. Some sociological concepts found in the movie include Race and Ethnicity, Age Stratification, and Social Interaction. Throughout the movie, there are plenty of examples, but I will use the three main concepts I found. The example of Race and Ethnicity would be Discrimination.

According to the case, it stated that Graff Salot, the director of Performance Improvement (PI), at Pleasant Bluffs Health System, is tasked with making these changes. (Erskine,2016) Therefore some potential solution might be to complete this task, he must first hired more people for administrative, and clinical. By doing this, will help to better manage the PI department and patients.
In the 1953 short story titled “A Good Man is Hard to Find” by Flannery O’Connor, readers are given a glimpse of what the end of the story may look like through use of foreshadowing, symbolism, and other literary techniques. Although the story looks to be an innocent story of a family who travels to Florida for vacation at the start of it, readers soon find out that the story has a darker twist to it. This family trip turns violent and this gruesome ending can easily represent the violence taking place in America during the time this story was written by O’Connor and even today. Conformity is gradually oppressing the world in which we live in. This ideal is prominently illustrated in the film Pleasantville which is directed, and produced by Gary Ross. Pleasantville is a great demonstration of the dangers of abiding by society’s expectations, and the freedoms that come with rebelling to these expectations and embracing change. Gary Ross uses several literary techniques such as; colour (symbolism), and character development to indicate the lack of creativity, and originality in society. Throughout the film, Ross illustrates how obstructive conformity can be to society, and how rewarding rebelling to societal norms can be for not only self growth, but societal advancement as well.
Example: “Eckels felt himself fall into a chair. He fumbled crazily at the thick slime on his boots. He held up a clod of dirt, trembling, ‘No, it can’t be. Not a little thing like that, No!” (Pg.7) Discussion: He accidently kills a living creature which is the butterfly and is surprised by how much of a big difference it has made in the future just by that one little insect.

Between the years of 1950 and 2010, the representation of gender roles and family structure has been addressed and featured in various sitcoms, such as “Father Knows Best” and “Modern Family”, through the use of narrative conventions, symbolic, audio and technical codes. These representations have transformed over time to reflect the changes in social, political, and historical contexts. The 1950’s sitcom “Father Knows Best” traditionally represents the values of gender roles and family structure in a 1950’society, with the father, held high as the breadwinner of the family and the mother as the sole homemaker.

The Bravermans are a blended California family who face a series of both fortunate and unfortunate events but together find a way to get by (Katims, 2010). Television consumers have been introduced to many fictional families overtime and continue to fall in love with family related television shows. Historically, the media has transformed and continues to adapt to the changes in present day family types. “Writers often take seeds from real life experiences and plant then in their scripts,” consumers both consciously or subconsciously attend to cues on television and want to apply what they see to their lives.

A negative change can ultimately have a positive outcome. Change is not always bad, but in order for it to be good you need to make it good.
