There Will Come Soft Rains Ray Bradbury foreshadows the materialistic outcome of the world in the future through his work There Will Come Soft Rains that results from the greed of humanity. Ray uses foreshadowing by telling his readers what he believes will be the future of the world through the voice of an empty house. Ray uses this story to portray his darker feelings on what he thinks people are doing to this earth. The main reason Ray wrote this story is to show that people may be the cause of this world ending. Most Christians believe that God will destroy the earth with fire because of man’s disobedience. He is able to humanize the house by making it come alive through his choice of descriptions. He talks about the house as if the house knew what was going to happen if the people continued to act selfishly. After describing the life story of the house to the readers, he describes the world as it is “now” in 2026. Ray said “You don't have to burn books to destroy a culture.
