The fool learns from mistakes, and the wise learn from history. When people are ignorant of their ignorance, mistakes are made, with undesirable events following. From fictional books to actual history, the mistakes of a key figure in an event can result in the failure of their vision, and this almost always happens. In William Shakespeare’s play Romeo and Juliet, the romance of two young lovers turns into a tragedy when a certain friar makes bad decisions one after another. Friar Laurence is responsible for the death of both Romeo and Juliet because of his attitudes towards the situation. He is full of pride, short-sightedness, and is intentionally ignorant. These trait of his ultimately leads to the double suicide of Romeo and Juliet. When Romeo first asked Friar Laurence to arrange a marriage for him and Juliet, He Refused and rant about how young people are blinded by lust and can’t think clearly through love, but then he changed his mind and agreed to help them because he thought it would help end the feud between the two lovers families. “Wisely and slow, they stumble that runs fast” (Shakespeare …show more content…
But that being said, he still didn’t think far ahead enough. Friar laurence decides to send a letter to Romeo, telling him that Juliet is not actually dead, but in a state of coma: “The letter was not nice but full of charge,/Of dear import, and the neglecting it/May do much danger.”(5.2.19-21). The Friar’s short-sightedness once again resulted in disaster. He successfully sent the letter to Romeo, but did not make sure Romeo would get the letter. He forgot to mention how important the letter is to Friar John, and thus Friar John did not send the letter in time for Romeo to receive it. Friar Laurence’s short-sightedness is one of the elements that built up to provoke the tragedy of Romeo and
After Juliet had drunk the potion, he gave her, Friar Lawrence wrote an urgent letter to Romeo with all of the details of Juliet’s location and when she would wake up. If Friar Lawrence thought it was that the letter was very important, he should've delivered it himself, or talked to Romeo in person. When he finds out that Friar John was taking his time to deliver it, the Friar realizes his mistake by saying, “Unhappy fortune! By my brotherhood, The letter was not nice but full of charge, Of dear import, and neglecting it, May do much danger.” (5.2.18-21).
At the end of the play Romeo and Juliet, Romeo drank poison which killed him and Juliet woke up to see Romeo dead next to her, after words she killed herself with a dagger. So who is to blame for the death of romeo and Juliet? I think Friar Laurence is to blame. This is because he gave Juliet the sleeping potion. He also failed to tell romeo about his plan.
Friar Laurence is a key piece in the story of Romeo and Juliet. He is like a father figure to Romeo, proven by the fact that he’s the first person Romeo goes to whenever he is seeking advice. The two star crossed lovers trust the Friar very much, most likely because of his title. Friar Laurence took an irreplaceable role in Romeo and Juliet’s lives that he did not fully live up to. Friar Laurence’s actions sequentially killed Romeo and Juliet.
All the difficulties and the bad situations that the lovers had gone through it were a result of Friar Laurence’s decision to remain silent. Secondly, Friar Laurence was not careful enough with the letter delivery as Romeo did not received it on time . This led Romeo to believe that Juliet was truly deceased and causing him to commit suicide. As well, when Friar John came back from Mantua, Laurence eagerly asked him about Romeo’s reaction to the letter, Friar John answered carelessly, “I could not send it -- here it is again--”(5.2.14). This quotation shows how much Friar John was inattentive about the importance of the letter, and how much Friar Laurence was incautious about informing Friar John how was the letter “full of charge” as he described to him later on.
Love resembles a fire, difficult to start, easy to set off, throughout Romeo and Juliet's journey, Friar Laurence is the water, setting off their love with the worst decisions he could possibly make. In The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet written by William Shakespeare, occurs many different scenes portraying the story of two star-crossed lovers, hence the name, to their lamentable death. But throughout this whole play, Friar Laurence was easily the magnet for the most chaos between their love, making very unintelligent decisions that lead to their death. Although Friar Laurence seems very helpful, he easily proves to cause the most disorder causing the inevitable death of Romeo and Juliet. Friar Laurence admits countless times he couldn't help Romeo with his love affair, but the main problem was improper plan making, which lacks a large extent of time and thought.
Romeo did not end up getting the letter in time and he went to Verona. Friar Lawrence promised to relay the information, but he failed to do
Throughout the entire play, accidental miscommunications lead to miscommunications. But these ‘mistakes’ are actually something greater—they are a manifestation of fate. We know from the prologue that Romeo and Juliet are star-crossed, thats is, they are doomed to bad luck, and that they are fated to take their lives. When Friar Lawrence sends a letter to a banished Romeo, this fate they share causes the letter to never leave Verona at all. The messenger, Friar John, tells Friar Lawrence that “I could not send it—here it is again— (gives FRIAR LAWRENCE a letter) Nor get a messenger to bring it thee,”(Shakespeare, V.ii.14-16).

Romeo and Juliet is a play about star-crossed lovers. Romeo is apart of a high class Montague family; their rival is the Capulet family. Romeo falls in love with the daughter of Lord Capulet. They want to get married but they know that this will not be approved between their family feud. This is why they secretly ask Friar Laurence to marry them in secret.
We all make bad decisions everyday. For example, watching TV when you have a bunch of homework to do, or playing video games all day instead of going outside to play. Now even though these are bad decisions, they don’t really seem to affect us long term. In the play, Romeo and Juliet, so many bad decisions are made that it leads to the death of two young teenagers that are in love, even though their families are bitter enemies. Throughout the play, their decisions keep getting worse and worse.
As they arrange a marriage behind everyone’s back, everything seems to be testing them; including a fight that broke out and ended in Tybalt’s murder and Romeo being banished from his hometown, Verona. Juliet could not go without being with her love, Romeo, and quickly had to find a way to be with him before her other marriage that her father arranged for her took place. As the friar arranges a plan for the two star-crossed lovers to reunite, things don’t work out the way they’re supposed to and end in the deaths of both characters. In Shakespeare’s, “Romeo and Juliet” Friar Laurence is to blame for Romeo and Juliet’s deaths because he is devious and has a poor planning ability.
He, meanwhile would send a note to Romeo informing him of the hoax that was being perpetrated on the Capulets and Paris, and asking Romeo to meet him at the graveyard where Juliet would greeted them alive and well. Unfortunately, the message never arrived. This was revealed when Friar John told Friar Laurence, " I could not send it, here it is again / Nor get a messenger to bring it thee" (5.2.14-15). Friar Laurence had not told the messenger the importance of the letter reaching Romeo. And, if Friar Laurence had followed the original agreement he made with Romeo: "Sojourn in Mantua; I 'll find out your man, /
This letter contained him saying what he was going to do to Juliet with the potion, and how he was going to fake her death so she could run away with him, and they could live happy ever after. The Friar says, “The letter was not nice, but full of charge of dear import, and neglecting it may do much danger”(V.ii.18-20). This quote is saying that Friar Laurence did not send the letter with a reliable person. In doing this it made Romeo not know what was actually going on, and if he would of known that she wasn't actually dead, he would not of killed himself, and she would not of killed herself because of Romeo killing
Also in act 4 scene 1 he says he will send a friar to Romeo, but the letter never got to him. Why? Well because Friar Laurence just gave him a letter saying take this to Rome, Friar John probably thought that it was just a normal letter and took his time. In other words, Friar Laurence failed to mention the importance of the letter, thus this ended in death.
