Tom robinson and scottsboro boys was accused of rapping white women. Most people already think that they were the ones to do it. They think that only because of the color of their skin. The main point of this paper is about all the accusations and mayella and the girls. Also how the lawyers that helped them.
Things in Maycomb, Alabama were pretty normal. Until one day, when news went around saying that Mayella Ewell had been sexually assaulted by an African American named Tom Robinson. This struck the town by surprise because the Ewells were not exactly the most admirable family. Mayella had very little power because of her race, class, and gender. Ordinarily being white back then was of higher rank, but considering where she came from, her race did not do her any good.
This story takes place in Maycomb, Alabama during the year 1929. A young white girl, Mayella Ewell, tries to seduce an African-American man, Tom Robinson. Later she accuses him of raping her. She knew she would win the case because she was a female and the jury would lean to her side, considering it was an all white jury. Also, the Ewells were known for being the poorest family in Maycomb.
In the story, the character Tom Robinson was accused of beating and molesting Mayella Ewell (daughter of Bob Ewell). As everyone in Maycomb county titles a person that defends African American “Nigger-Lover”, Atticus Finch (Scout and Jems father) is against that cliché; he is rather humble. Bob Ewell is one of the characters that slightly does not follow the law of life. He demands change but it is easier said than done; his definition of change is revenge. Ewell plans to take his revenge out on Atticus, Jem and, Scout for being witnesses of the humiliation he went through.
The novel To Kill a Mockingbird written by Harper Lee has many powerful characters that have been greatly affected by the prejudice system back in the 1930s. Tom Robinson, Dolphus Raymond, and Boo Radley are all characters from this novel who have had biased accusations made against them. Tom Robinson, a twenty-five year old black man with a family of his own, was falsely accused of raping nineteen year old Mayella Ewell. Dolphus Raymond is a white man who is married to a black woman and is profoundly judged for his decisions. Boo Radley is a very mysterious character in this book, he has a very parochial outlook on things as he has hardly ever left his home.
In the novel, “To Kill A Mockingbird”, Harper Lee categorizes power using class, race and gender. Mayella Ewell, living in Maycomb, Alabama, starts allegations that Tom, a poor-Negro man of rape. Living in the South during the 1930s could have been difficult but Mayella, a white women can make it. (“DBQ is Mayella Ewell powerful?” 19) states “-that all Negroes lie, that all Negroes are basically immoral beings, that all Negro men are not to be trusted around are women….”, meaning she will most likely win the trial because of her race.
Bob’s attempt shook up the town, and made townspeople turn completely against him. Heck Tate describes Bob as a “Low-down skunk with enough liquor in him to make him brave enough to kill children” that quote exemplifies the horrible opinions of his action, and exposes him for being an alcoholic (360). This describes the life lesson by showing how Bob did an awful thing, and how an awful thing happened right back to him. Tom Robinson’s action also led to him getting killed. Tom Robinson was put in jail for raping a white woman, Mayella Ewell even though Tom was innocent.
Bob Edwell is the girl's father and Mmayella is the name of the girl. Tom is black and Bob is white. In this time blacks were not considered important and had no chance of winning a case. Everyone knows Bob is guilty but since Tom is black and Bob is white Tom will be accused of being guilty. Jem sees how bad segregation is and it makes him upset.
After Bob hears about this he realizes he needs to cover up his own tracks so as to not ruin his reputation, and he fakes the crime and gets away with it. Concrete evidence of this is found in court, but ultimately, due to Tom being an African American, he is found guilty. Yet, Mayella’s father had been physically and
For example, Tom Robinson was pleaded guilty, not because he was guilty of what the accused him of, but because he was a negro. Lastly, the trial of Tom Robinson taught both of the kids a lesson. They both learned a person’s behavior, not his color, or social status is most important. Bob Ewell was a harsh character. Ewell, an abusive, prejudice, liar, and a man that is responsible for beating and mistreating his daughter, Mayella.
For one, Bob Ewell’s family name is low in the social hierarchy. His family isn’t reputable. In addition, he is known to abuse alcohol which causes him to act irrational. Therefore, these factors could lead to Bob Ewell accusing an innocent black man, Tom Robinson of raping his daughter. Meanwhile, the evidence shows that himself was committing these bad crimes to his very own daughter.
In the novel: To Kill A Mockingbird, Mayella Ewell, a poor white woman, accused Tom Robinson, an African American, of rape. The Ewell’s are very indigent and her father, Bob Ewell, gets drunk and abuses Mayella. Since Mayella is very poor, this makes her not so powerful. In Maycomb, Alabama, A poor white woman named Mayella Ewell who lives behind the town garbage dump, accuses Tom Robinson, an African American, of rape.
Tom is a respectable, humble, kind Negro whom Atticus is defending against the charge that he raped Mayella Ewell, which is the daughter of Bob
A hero is a villain in the eyes of someone else. This implies that even though someone may be a villain to you, they are a hero in some else's eyes. This applies to both Tom Robinson from To Kill a Mockingbird written by Harper Lee and Victor from Cracked written by K.M Walton. Victor and Tom are both be hated by the people they live with. In Toms case, he is being hated by his small town.
Social prejudice is shown throughout Harper Lee’s award winning book, To Kill a Mockingbird. Harper Lee powerfully analyses the theme social prejudice, and its effect on people. Such as how the Social prejudice is discrimination based on your status in society. An example of social prejudice would be the Radley family, which consists of Boo Radley, Nathan Radley and Arthur Radley. As they haven’t been out of their house in years people are lead to believe the rumours.
