1) Personal drives
2) Managerial actions
3) Job or work itself
Hackman and Oldham Job characteristic model
The job characteristics model, designed by Hackman and Oldham, is based on the idea that the task itself is key to employee motivation. Specifically, a boring and monotonous job stifles motivation to perform well, whereas a challenging job enhances motivation. Variety, autonomy and decision authority are three ways of adding challenge to a job. Job enrichment and job rotation are the two ways of adding variety and challenge. Five characteristic dimensions required for job characteristic model

This job has high level of motivation.
Autonomy : the degree to which a job provides substantial freedom and desecration to individual in scheduling the work and in determining the procedure to be used to in carrying it work. It means if one has the ability to give input and know how their job is done.
Eg. an instructor who is required to follow a predetermined textbook, covering a given list of topics using a specified list of classroom activities, has low autonomy. On the other hand, an instructor who is free to choose the textbook, design the course content, and use any relevant materials when delivering lectures has higher levels of autonomy. Autonomy increases motivation at work, but it also has other benefits. Giving employees autonomy at work is a key to individual as well as company success, because autonomous employees are free to choose how to do their jobs and therefore can be more effective.
The manner and process of how the job is done is up to the employee then job has great degree of

• Task Identity
Being able to identify with the work at hand as more whole and complete, and hence enabling more pride to be taken in the outcome of that work (e.g. if you just add one nut to one bolt in the same spot every time a washing machine goes past it is much less motivating than being the person responsible for the drum attachment and associated work area (even as part of a group).
• Task Significance
Being able to identify the task as contributing to something wider, to society or a group over and beyond the self. For example, the theory suggests that I will be more motivated if I am contributing to the whole firm’s bonus this year, looking after someone or making something that will benefit someone else. Conversely I will be less motivated if I am only making a faceless owner wealthier, or am making some pointless item (e.g. corporate give-away gifts).
Responsibility
Responsibility is derived from autonomy, as in the job provides substantial freedom, independence and discretion to the individual in scheduling the work and in determining the procedures to be used in carrying it out)

Knowledge is a very powerful source that anyone can gain. Knowledge can help anyone reach their goal. In the book Fahrenheit 451 their society think knowledge is a crime. In their society they try to burn any type of knowledge, but they can’t burn all of it. Knowledge will find its way through experience.
he movie titled “The Pursuit of Happyness”, there was a problematic family living in San Francisco in 1981. The main character, Chris Gardner worked as a salesman invested his entire life savings in portable bone density scanner to support his family including his wife Linda and a five years old son Christopher. However, Chris’ business was not doing well and his wife was forced to work. Day after day, Linda was suffering and she always quarrelled with Chris and blamed him for didn’t play the role as a responsible father and a good husband. Luckily, this was not the end for Chris.
The theory was created in 1976 and Hackman and Oldham (1980) revised this theory again in 1980. In 1997, Faturochman defined job characteristic theory as the relationship between job characteristics and individual responses to work. The theory identifies specific task conditions where individuals are assumed to prosper in their work. Essentially, job characteristics can predict job satisfaction. SDT is in agreement with this theory that it promotes autonomous motivation.
INTRODUCTION Adapted from the course module notes, there are two categories of theories and techniques in job design to motivate employees: 1. Content theories by Maslow, McClelland, Herzberg and Alderfer. 2. Process theories such as Job Rotation, Job Enlargement and Enrichment; Herzberg’s Two-Factor Theory, The Hackman and Oldham Model and Empowerment.
Because of this fact, knowledge can be seen as a vital quality to
The results of the PAQ allows one to view specific details about the job, as well as the ability to compare jobs or positions in different businesses. Additional details regarding the elements and six main categories, along with the use of the PAQ in a research study, will be further discussed. Riggio (2013) effectively discusses and describes the job elements that the PAQ analyzes. The elements are grouped into six main categories and are described in brief detail. The categories include the following: information input, mental processes, work output, relationships with other persons, job context, and other job characteristics.
This is a great method, it also engages on employee
Introduction In today’s business, maximization of profits represents the principal feature of business operations. In order to achieve the highest profits, companies have to manage their human resources effectively. Thus, employee’s motivation has emerged as a critical component, it holds the key to the success of a company. Therefore, human resource managers must motivate their employees to let them perform to their best and achieve the organizational goals.
Among scholars, the different facets of job satisfaction included feelings toward a job, pay, benefits, supervision, coworkers, the work itself, organizational environment, and work conditions as stated by Biggs & Swaile; Fichter & Cipolla (as cited by Appiah, 2016). Aziri (as cited by Appiah, 2016) stated that employees were usually more productive, more stable, and had a better
Question - How might a manager redesign the job of a person who delivers newspapers to raise levels of the core job dimensions identified by the job characteristics model? Solution- Redisgning of job includes taks, responsibilties and duties of a job so as to make it more encouraging and inspiring for the employees and workers. Advantages of Job Redesign Enhances the Quality of Work- Job redesigning motivates the employees and enhances the quality of work . It increases their on-the-job productivity and encourages them to perform better.
Next, there are four types of important theories of motivation which includes Maslow`s H Hierarchy of Needs Theory, McGregor’s Theory X and Theory Y, Herzberg’s Two- Factor Theory and McClelland’s Three-Needs Theory. These theories represent the foundation from which contemporary theories grew and still are used by practising managers to explain employee motivation. Motivation is an internal feeling which can be understood by manager because he is only one always close contact with the employees.” Motivation is
