Friendship In The Story Damon And Pythias

I think in the story, “Two Friends”, friendship was presented more realistically because of the events that happened in the story. I thought the story “Damon and Pythias” didn’t show a realistic approach to friendship because of how Damon didn’t hesitate and trusted his life to Pythias. Although it’s nice that they deeply care for each other, the part where they would die for each other was too exaggerated. In “Two Friends”, the way Morissot and Sauvage act around each other shows that they’re good friends. “Often they spent half a day side by side…Inevitably they had struck up a friendship.” (Maupassant, 1234). However, it didn’t mean that they were using each other for their own benefits. “…Aristotle never suggests that two people who are useful to each other are therefore automatically, and on that basis alone, friends.” (Meilaender, firstthings.com). When two people realize that they’re both good people, they tend to stay together and enjoy their time together. However, if their morals and principles oppose each other’s, it’ll also affect their relationship. “Aristotle makes it clear that the number of people with whom one can sustain the kind of relationship he calls a perfect friendship is quite small…this kind of friendship can exist only when one spends a great deal of time with the other person…” (Kraut, plato.standford.edu). During the Franco-Prussian war in the 1870’s, France was afraid of how powerful Prussia became. Companions in war took care of each other during hard times. The French army wasn’t well organized but they still fought together, which showed good collaboration. Religion was important for the French; they believed in the faith and morality of the people. “The French believe that people can be either good or evil…” (March, acad.depauw.edu). If you’re a good person, other people will want to be with you rather than being with someone who’s bad. My worldview is closest to the ancient Greek worldview because I agree with Aristotle’s ethics and theories about friendship. Moreover, my worldview is very similar to his ideas,
