There are three appeals that focus on specific effects of an argument which is logos, ethos and pathos. Logos is logic and reason, ethos is credibility and trust, and pathos is emotion and empathy. In “Federico’s Ghost,” by Martin Espads, the poem provides an appeal to pathos. The main message of the poem was about how the crop duster didn’t care about Federico and the workers in the field. Martin Espada stated how the workers were sprayed with pesticide and how Federico got very hurt and died. Martin wanted us to feel Federico pain when describing how he died, which appealed to sympathy. Sonnet 18 by William Shakespeare appeals to Logos. For pathos appeals Carson uses emotions such as fear, alarming, and concerns. This appeal is strong for this argument because of the use of pesticides and chemicals. An example for alarming, Carson poetically asserted that “to still the song of birds and the leaping of fish in the streams, to coat the leaves with a deadly film, and to linger on in soil” (Carson 645). The audience can create a polluted and an unclean stream of land that is deeply contaminated. Carson uses this song as a concept to show the purpose and create such fearful emotions.
Rhetorical Analysis of David Brook’s “People Like Us” The goal of argumentative writing implies the fact of persuading an audience that an idea is valid, or maybe more valid than somebody else’s. With the idea of making his argument successful, and depending on which topic is being established, the author uses different strategies which Aristoteles defined as “Greek Appeals”. Pathos, the first appeal, generates emotions in the reader, and it may have the power of influencing what he believes. Ethos, or ethical appeals, convince the reader by making him believe in the author’s credibility.
Logos, Pathos, and Ethos are the three appeals used in argumentation. Roth ineffectively uses the rhetorical triangle by the employment of pathos, ethos, and logos by not regarding the persons’ situations or feelings, projecting hypocrisy onto the text, and by using unclear evidence and logic. ‘Reasons are BS’(Roth 38). This is a saying that claims every reason, even if it is a good reason, is BS. This includes the good reasons, like, “My grandma died” and “I’m late to class because my bike got a flat”.
Logos, the appeal to logic and knowledge, is most commonly used with facts, statistics, or just logical reasoning. On example of Sanders supporting his argument with this appeal is when he cites statistics. In chapter 4, Sanders notes after asking his students how many of their peers cheated it was between 70-90 percent. These numbers create a concrete image in the reader's mind appealing to their logical side that this is the vast majority of his students. Next, the appeal of ethos is the appeal to credibility and authority.

The idea of using logo makes an effective and persuasive speech. Without this important element there will be no reasoning to support the topic.

President Obama 's speech to school children should go to school because it can benefit their future uses rhetorical appeals to help persuade the readers and schoolchildren. One example of a rhetorical appeal that Obama used to persuade his reader was pathos. Pathos can help persuade a claim because it can cause emotions in the reader and make them feel that they can do something about it. For example, Mr.Gilmer uses Pathos when making Mayella explain what happened on the supposed day Tom abused and took advantage of her, the reasoning is that in the book it says “Mayella stared at him and burst into tears. She cover her mouth with her hands and sobbed. ”lee241 When this scene happened Mr.Gilmer was questioning Mayella. This showed a negative holistically in the argument; Pathos was strengthened because of the reason it appealed the audience emotion making them feel bad for her, this helped the argument because the audience felt emotion when Mayella was crying this might cause an unbiased audience to feel and think that Tom could possibly be guilty. Also, Mr.Gilmer used Ethos appealing to the audiences good morals for this reason

He uses logos to gives us facts about the U.S. health care system so we know its legit.
The Gettysburg Address was intended to be an argument to persuade. Abraham Lincoln was inspiring his troops because morale was low after the Battle of Gettysburg. They need motivation to keep fighting. Lincoln used logos by explaining that because people gave their lives defending what they believed in, the living should finish the job the dead started. By talking about the fellow soldiers who died at Gettysburg, Lincoln appeals to the pathos of his listeners.
