The values that a culture upholds are a strong indicator of that cultures strengthens and weaknesses. The same can be said of a person, the values held highest often speak to the character of the individual. Please understand, holding something sacred and living for an ideal is not the same as being perfect. I strive to uphold these values, sadly I must admit we are rarely at our best..

The first, and highest virtue is Love. Don't mistake the emotion that a man feels for a woman or a mother for her child. Love, as I see it, is a choice; a willingness to suffer or sacrifice for another person. Most people feel pity, sadness caused by suffering. Some feel compassion and are moved to speak out against the suffering. A rare few experience Love. These people are willing to sacrifice to end the suffering of other people. Raised in a Southern Baptist Church; the greatest value of Christianity is Love. The sacrifice of Jesus and the struggles of Christians through history to spread the Word. People willing to suffer for others, I don't expect that I will have to suffer prison or beatings as a teacher. Yet, I do expect to sacrifice time, money and self to my students. Honor is the simple act of self-respect and respect for others. Honor includes responsibility and rightness in actions. As stewards of knowledge and models of proper behavior teacher must act with Honor. Show respect even if disrespected. Actions show a person's Honor. We are not responsible not for what happens to us, but how we react. Things happen, people are late, students act out, and misunderstandings occur; how we respond speaks of our character.
