Proctor and Abigail have had an affair that very few know about. She wants continuous love and affection, because she is in love. Through her spitefulness, lust, and dishonesty, Abigail shows how she is the cause for this disaster. In order to get John Proctor where she needs him, Abigail does things out of spite to get at Elizabeth. She accuses Proctor’s wife of witchcraft to eliminate her from Proctor’s life.
In my opinion, the internment of Japanese-Americans in 1941 was not only unnecessary for national defense, it was also a racist act. Due to the bombing of Pearl Harbor, over 110,000 Japanese Americans were forced by the executive order 9066 to evacuate the west coast, being placed in internment camps. Even though to some measure it is understandable that one may be sceptical after such a traumatic experience takes place, internment camps for innocent men, women and children cannot be justified. A large majority of these Japanese-Americans were forced to stay and withstand immensely difficult living conditions and harsh treatment for two and a half years. Relocation has left many with a sense of shame that continues to live on in our modern day.
How would you feel if one day you were told to leave your whole life behind to live in captivity just because people halfway across the world did something wrong? This horror story was all too true for the thousands of Japanese Americans alive during World War II. Almost overnight, thousands of proud Japanese Americans living on the west coast were forced to leave their homes and give up the life they knew. The United States government was not justified in the creation of Japanese internment camps because it stripped law-abiding American citizens of their rights out of unjustified fear. Furthermore, the United States should do more to compensate the families of those impacted by internment because the recompense provided initially was minimal and should be considered an affront to the memory of the victims.
Imagine being a wealthy 45-year-old woman in 1692 being accused of being a witch. The Salem Witch trials were caused by jealousy, fear, and lying. People believed that the devil was real and that one of his tricks was to enter a normal person 's body and turn that person into a witch. This caused many deaths and became a serious problem in 1692. First of all, jealousy was one of the causes of the Salem witch trials.
This also shows how Americans took matters into their own hands and forced Roosevelt to enact Executive Order 9066. Executive Order 9066 placed all citizens of Japanese descent in internment camps. Even Japanese citizens from Peru were forcefully sent to American internment camps. “...the US government asked a dozen Latin American countries, among them Peru, to arrest its Japanese residents.”(Gonzales) This represents how Americans were insecure about the US national security. The US government did so because they were afraid those Japanese people could be potential spies, and that those spies would leak information that would harm the US.
In the play The Crucible we meet the town of Salem and how they are doing with a bunch of accusations on people being witches. A mass hysteria takes place with these people and they start calling out their friends and neighbors out as witches for more material gain. We meet John Proctor a man that tries to live the simple life. He loves his wife, and even though he cheated on her with the villainous Abbey, John still loves wife. John is poorer than some of the other farmers, but he owns a large portion of land that they all want.
Japanese Internment (Executive Order 9066) Have you ever thought what happened back then, why war happened so much? Well there is one war there is one war I learned about, it’s the bombing of Pearl Harbor. This was mostly a between Japan and America. Also the united States not trusting the Japanese Americans and putting them into 10 different internment camps because of the bombing.Although Japanese Internment camps were caused by political, cultural, and economic factors, the most important causal factor was political. To start off for the first cause is economical. One quote to support my causal factor is on page 10, “They can get rid of the Japanese Americans and grab their land and possession.” This quote supports my causal factor economical
Two months after December 7, 1941, when Japanese launched their aircraft to attack American Pacific fleet, Hawaii, which killed 2,403 American citizen, soldiers, and civilians and sink many boats, airplanes, President Roosevelt signed the Executive Order 9066 to designate military area which targeted to more than 110,000 Japanese American people living along the West Coast. This Order raised up the unfair situation in the America’s society, deeply affect to the economic and the military camp did not provide enough safety condition for all Japanese America. The Executive Order of President Roosevelt created unfair situations in the American society because this order forced all Japanese American lost their jobs, their houses and their life without any specific evidences which proved they supported Japan to attack America. No one have rights to judge other people based on their race, color or their origin, but the President made an Order which completely again that idea. There were more than 158,000 Japanese people in Hawaii forced to leave their home, and gave up their jobs.
Those who would admit to being a witch would go to jail, but for those who denied having interaction with the devil would have been trialed and hung, so really, anyway you put it it’s a lose-lose situation. Things like politics, religion, imaginations, and fear of people were just some of the main factors of what aided people into believing that Satan was upon the town of Salem. They believed that the humans were with devil and doing as he said which in turn gave them the power to harm others. One girl named Tituba was trying to save herself by confessing to witchcraft. She didn’t just confess but she also accused many other women about being witches and she said that they all were in the “hands of Satan”.
Fear uses deception to increase prejudice towards the opposing idea. This type of propaganda was used in the play when Abigail, the protagonist of the story threatened the other women when they were opposing to her ideas and accusations. She threatened them by telling them about her history, and what she was capable of. Also, this was used often by the Court themselves. They used fear in order to convince people to confess to witchcraft.
Many of those accused as witches died not just because of the accusers but, because of the unfairness of the trials. The judges of the trials used spectral evidence, ignoring the accused, and the judges were unfair because they believed in witches and want those who were witches dead. In the trials judges used spectral evidence. Spectral evidence is when the accused claim that they saw the spirit of the person on trial do something that they should not have done. In the book it states that “A woman named Goodie Bibber testified that the specter of Rebecca
Executive Order 9066 was one of the reasons that Internment camps were out in place. The other reason was the surprise air raid of Pearl Harbor. Franklin D. Roosevelt was the person who put it into action because of bad leadership and public opinion. The Pearl Harbor attack created even more racism towards Japanese Americans. During a time period of 35 years(1889-1924) there were over 200,000 Japanese immigrants that came into the U.S. With a threat of loss jobs on mostly white controlled farms.
The United State’s government then built isolation camps and made the japanese citizens stay in these camps. The Japanese- American Internment Camps impacted United States history through the rupture of the United States government and japanese citizens. The Japanese American Internment camps had a big impact on the United States because it caused separation between Japan and the United States (Daine 8,9). The United States was paranoid because of the large presence of Japanese on
The Executive Order 9066 is where the order for the internment camps originated from. It shows how the American government addressed the Japanese-Americans living in the United States. At first everyone including the President defended the Japanese living in the United States until the Niihau incident where two Hawaiian born with Japanese ethnics helped and aided a downed pilot that assisted in the attacks of Pearl Harbor. After that the fear of Espionage became a huge concern and the racially motivated crimes and discrimination against the Japanese-American’s, is why the Executive Order 9006 was signed and enforced. The order forced 120,000 Japanese-Americans with most of them being American citizens to leave their homes, businesses and American constitutional rights behind and spend the war years behind barbed wire (By, 1988).
Around the time of the witch trials, the people in Salem were very religious. Rumors were easily spread and it was nearly impossible to prove yourself innocent if people were talking about you otherwise. During the witch hysteria, innocent people were imprisoned and and executed because someone has accused them of being a witch. It is understandable that some would accuse others to save themselves from imprisonment or from possible death. However, I believe Abigail should be held responsible for the imprisonment and execution of innocent people because she threaten the girls, so they would act bewitched and she also lied about getting stabbed by a needle and making it look like as if Elizabeth Proctor did it with witchcraft.
