When Boo was younger a he had a sort of run-in with the law, which in the end made him have to stay at home and never leave because of what thought about him and his family. All he could do was stay in his house and watch the children play. This is how he watched the books two main characters grow up, he watch Jem and Scout Finch grow up without them even knowing. He felt like he needed to protect them, which is something he does over and over again. At first he does small things like fixing Jem’s shorts and putting little surprises in a hole of a tree trunk.
It began when as punishment for the deed he had to, “...Come over [to Mrs. Dubose’s house] every afternoon after school and read to her out loud for two hours”(Lee 121). This seemed like torture to Jem, who whined and complained to Atticus, but he eventually submitted. As Jem read, Mrs. Dubose seemed to be trying to teach him new words, according to Scout, who said, “When Jem came to a word he didn’t know, he skipped it, but Mrs. Dubose would catch him and make him spell it out”(Lee 122). Jem seemed to be unaware of this, but he must have learned new words and their meanings from this experience. However, he was mainly focused on how ghastly the old woman appeared.
The first event that impacted Scout is her first day of school. At her first day of school, she is introduced to a new teacher, Miss Caroline Fisher. Scout gets in trouble with Miss Caroline in the afternoon. Walter Cunningham, a boy in Scout’s class did not bring a lunch and Miss Caroline offers money to buy some. However, Walter is too poor to pay back Miss Caroline, while Miss Caroline does not understand, Scout explains the Cunningham’s situation but is disciplined anyway.
“Boo Radley”, a game where they reenact the Radley family story. Jem, Dill, and Scout had made it a daily habit however Scout had no longer felt comfortable doing it anymore. Atticus also did not like the game and warned them to stop. Scout says “Atticus arrival home was the second reason I wanted to quit playing the game. The first reason happened that day as I rolled into the Radley yard..
Where I think they thought wrong about Boo Radley that nobody knows him that well, and that he placed a blanket over Scout the day of the fire when Miss Maudie house was on fire. Boo Radley also carved little things for Scout and Jem knowing everyday that they walk by coming from school, which was nice. Boo Radley is thought of in a wrong

In Gary Soto’s short story “The Jacket” the main character, the boy in the jacket, vows “ I spent my sixth-grade year in a tree in the alley, waiting for something good to happen to me in that jacket, which had become the ugly brother who tagged along wherever I went.” The boy blames his jacket for all the struggles that happened to him and he believes that the jacket brought him bad luck. Soto uses this to support the theme because the boy is being distracted by the jacket. Which makes him not try to improve his life. Soto uses literary elements, symbolism, and conflict to support the overarching theme: focusing on the small things like appearances can distract society from the bigger more important things. First and foremost, the literary element in “The Jacket” supports the overarching theme, focusing on the small things like appearances can distract humainity from the bigger more important things.

Entry One On page twelve of Holes, Stanley gets to the camp and meets Mr. Sir for the first time. Because the camp was so far away, both the bus driver and guard felt understandably irritated. In fact, the guard stated, “Nine hours here, and now nine hours back… What a day.” Stanley “felt a little sorry for the guard and the bus driver” for putting them through the trouble. This reminds me of how in the book Wringer, Palmer feels guilty about a mistake he made. When he is hiding his pet pigeon, Nipper, from the world who wants to kill him, he accidentally left one of Nipper’s toys in his room for the critics to see.
