“I raise up my voice-not so I can shout, but so that those without a voice can be heard...we cannot succeed when half of us are held back.” ― Malala Yousafzai. Malala was born on July 12, 1997, in Mingora, Pakistan, where girls were restricted from going to school, and therefore treated unfairly. Unlike anyone else, Malala was not afraid to speak out against the Taliban. Unfortunately, she was shot in the forehead on the way back from school on a bus. She was targeted because she spoke out on the right of girls education. Luckily, she survived and continued to globally speak out about the importance of education. Malala stood up against the taliban, and demanded the right of education for girls. She has rallied the world in the fight to educate young girls, and children in general. But her greatest gift has been to demonstrate to everyone around the world, that it is possible to stand up against what is wrong. Malala has shown courage because she knew the risk it would take to advocate for the education of girls. Malala states, “ All I want is an education, and I am afraid of no one”. She is courageous because despite knowing the danger in which she was placing herself, she still never stood down. Malala Yousafzai, shot and wounded in Pakistan for being an advocate of education for young women when she was 15, has emerged as an international symbol of the challenges that still exist in gender equality in education. She has one goal, the right for girls education, and she will not come down without a fight. Not only did she show great courage, but she also showed compassion. Malala is compassionate and cares for the less fortunate, she thought of others before herself. She made sure girls were treated the way that they should be. Although she knew it was a big risk, she fought peacefully. She has one goal, the right for girls education, and she will not come down without a fight. Though she did face some barriers, she never stood down and achieved her goal. Malala showed compassion because she stood up for the people without a voice.
