in 1812 with president madison in office congress declared war against the british. the war began with an attack on canada, both as an effort to gain land
The War of 1812 might be one of the least understood wars in most American history classes due to history textbooks leaving out the real impact and outcome of the fight, according to Loewen. The War of 1812 granted Native Americans most of their land, and also made the Native Americans look like “savages” to most European
The French and Indian war (also known as the seven year war) marked a huge turning point in American relations with Great Britain. Prior to the war the British and the French were in conflict and it reached America and was know as the seven year war which was from 1754 to 1763. The British had neglected any involvement with the colonies affairs except maintaining their policies for mercantilism. After the war the British were in debt and the colonies relationship with the mother country was strained. The war ended the period of neglect and conflicts worsened greatly.
The three most important long term results that the War of 1812 has given was that it completely ended the British ambitions of remaking new colonies in the United States, as well the the United States trying to take over Canada. The second result is that it gave the United States an opportunity to expand to the west and make settlements that later on comes the Louisiana Territory comes in part. The third result was that the Tariff of 1816 giving off protection rights of forming the Industrial Revolution which helped out forming the economy drastically. The Monroe Doctrine as well helped the United Sates of giving regional power of gaining land from the Latin American countries. These result helped shaped the United States for the long run
The war of 1812 occurred on June 18, 1812. This is when James Madison, the President of the United States, declared war on Britain. The war lasted for two and a half years. Then a peace treaty was signed by James Madison on December 24, 1814, but the fighting ceased January 8, 1815. In the War of 1812 the United States, which was a nation running on the Constitution for twenty five years met Great Britain on the battlefield for their second war over the past 37 years.
War of 1812 Final Project The war of 1812 began because America got mad at Britain Because they started to impress american people to join their Royal Navy. It also started because of America’s desire for more territory. America didn’t like the fact the the British was coming over to America and just taking American people and forcing them to be in their Royal Navy. American troops tried to defend themselves in New York, Baltimore and New Orleans, and they were successful in doing so and it boosted National confidence and it fostered a new Spirit of Patriotism.
The War of 1812 is vaguely remembered by Americans today, very few are aware of who the enemy was or why the war was fought. One reason the war is so vaguely remembered is that no “great” president is connected to the war. The war was fought over maritime issues, the Orders in Council that greatly restricted American trading within the European Continent, and also the practice of the Royal Navy taking over American ships and forcing them to serve on the Navy ships. Although America had won most of its past wars, the War of 1812 was quite different. The nation was lucky to escape, they signed a treaty known as the the Treaty of Ghent which ended the war but did not a thing about the issues that had caused the war in the first place.
The War of 1812 was pretty eventful. Some of the main reasons it started was because the British were capturing American sailors and making them work for them, and they wanted American ships to stop in Britain and pay a tax if they wanted to share merchandise with any other European countries. This obviously made James Madison, the president at the time, mad so then he told Congress that he wanted to declare war. At first congress said no, but eventually Madison got his war.
In the end, no-one won and the only ones who ended up losing where the Native American Indians. For starters, it really bothered the Americans that the British attempted to restrict their trade. A passage entitled War of 1812 states “ At the outset of the 19th century, Great Britain was locked in a long and bitter conflict with Napoleon Bonaparte’s France.” It goes on to say “ In an attempt to cut off supplies from reaching the enemy, both sides attempted to block the United States from trading with the other.” A similar passage also entitled War of 1812 elaborates on this idea when it states “The United States considered these restrictions illegal under international law.”
Thesis The war of 1812 is the most significant for the first nations as they were betrayed, lost power and lost the most land. The war of 1812 had many negative consequences on the first nations people, for starters the first nations lost land. In 1815, the United states signed an agreement with various first nations stating that the United States would give back the land that the first nations had before 1811, although the United States never gave back the land and rather pushed the first nations north and west off their territory.
The Native American had seen what was going on with other native tribes and how they were being removed from their territories and having settlers moving in. They didn’t like the fact that the settlers were expanding their territory and removing them from their territory. The Native American were under the control of Tecumseh which were the ones rebelling against the settlers due to their expansion. The war was also caused by war hawks; war hawks are people who desire for war. These people were moist common around the 1812 due to the conflicts going in the foreign countries and on their own territories.
This was a big problem for Britain. I believe that this war should never have been fought, just because a few greedy merchants wanted to start the war. The crazy thing is that both sides gained nothing in this war. Indians fought many wars, but the war of 1812 was the
(War of 1812 - 1815). The very next year in 1807 Great Britain decided that they were going to play the same game as France and made it illegal for France and all allies of France to trade with each other. In response to the childish games that France and Great Britain were playing the United States Congress passed laws to “[prohibit] U.S. vessels” from doing business with the European Nations (War of 1812 - 1815). In 1810 the United States decided that realistically this wasn 't exactly doing what it was suppose to so they opened trade back up with the European Nations on the condition that France and Great Britain
Having a British colony as a neighbor made people on both sides of the border uneasy. The Americans were waiting for Canada to “(reject) the artificial rule of a foreign empire”(198), while Britain was waiting for The United States to collapse and beg them to rejoin the empire. While both waited for the others eventual fall, other factors led to them to war.
Hello again Morgan, I also chose to write about the War of 1812 as my discussion post as it brings interesting debatable topics to view. Throughout our reading, there are multiple reasons cited for the War of 1812, but I believe that there were a few reasons that stand out from the others. Consequently, not only was war proclaimed against Britain, but also against the Indians of the West. This begs the question, would the war have been called against Britain if the settlers had been able to move westward without Indian interference? Moreover, based on this classes reading it is highly possible that this was an excuse to evict the Indians from their lands in the West, using the British alliance as a reason to declare war.
