Less than a week after the Minnesota mall stabbings, a man in his 20s walked into a mall in Washington on September 23 and killed five people with a rifle. The man walked into the Cascade Mall in Burlington, which is 45 miles south of the border from Canada and began to shoot people around 7 p.m. The attack took place in a Macy’s department store at the cosmetic section where four women were killed in the attack and one man later died at a hospital due to his injuries. Makayla Dyer died on October 3 after being shot by her eleven year old neighbor (whose name they are not yet releasing) after refusing to let him play with her puppies. When he asked to play with Makayla's puppies and she replied no, the boy then went inside his house and pointed his dad's 12-gauge shot gun outside of the window. Makayla turned around and continued to play with her friends, not believing the threat of the little boy. Since the Columbine High School shooting, school shootings have become a common occurrence. People have become so accustomed to seeing them on the news, so we hardly bat an eye at them anymore. For every instance of a school shooting we see, there are hundreds of lawmakers making public that their thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their families. Frankly, those thoughts and prayers are simply not enough anymore. The Parkland shooting is one of many school shootings, that have brought light to the subject of gun violence in schools, and it is clear, if it hasn’t been one already, that gun regulation needs to change.
Officers Identified in Fatal Minneapolis Shooting The two police officers involved in the fatal shooting of Jamar Clark, 24, have been identified. Jamar was said to be unarmed at the time of the shooting. The two officers have been identified as seven year veterans of the police force, but their race has not been disclosed. Nikolas Cruz exited a Uber outside of Stoneman Marjory Douglass High School at 2:19 p.m. wearing dark colored jeans, a Stoneman Douglass polo shirt, carrying a duffel bag with an ar-15, and a backpack with a vest and ammo. Cruz walked into the 1200 building, wherein a stairwell a student stumbled upon him loading his weapon who left to tell a teacher. Later, Cruz set off a fire alarm, and started shooting into the hallways. After that, he started shooting into different rooms, passing some and entering others.
