National Art Honor Society Research Paper

There are many artists who have contributed to the art world. Some have accomplished more than others, learning science, math, and engineering along with their art profession. Some artists were dyslexic, never able to write an essay but posses the ability to draw beautifully. All of these artists are amazing at their profession, none of them any better than the others. This is why one can’t judge artists based on their skill alone, both style and popularity affect their work.

Kerry James Marshall’s work is informed by his deep appreciation for the history of artistic expression, and profoundly influenced by urban culture, the African-American experience, and civil rights. “What I want to happen when I go to a museum is that expectations of what you find in there are completely altered, so that it’s not commonplace to just see European paintings with European bodies, but it’s also as likely that you will see ... black figures, Asian figures, or Hispanic figures.” Marshal’s art references a number of movements such as Fauvism, abstraction, and perception. He also has a unique way of using of cultural symbolism and pictorial devices that are informed by his own experiences of the world and his avid collecting of artefacts from classical mythology, folklore, African and African-American history, film history, art, literature, posters and comic books.

When I first hear about National Honor Society in the beginning of my middle school years I knew that it was something I not only wanted to be a part of but that I was meant to be a part of.

Leadership is a very important quality that I value and strive to live out in my every day life through athletics and academics. One way that I lead through athletics is serving as our volleyball team’s floor captain. That means that I am responsible for my team’s conduct and communicating with the officials. As the setter, I have the ability to lead my teammates through constant encouragement and positive actions. By improving each contact into a hittable ball, I am able to set my teammates up for success. I feel that I should be considered for the National Honor Society Committee for an abundant number of reasons. Though I cannot list all of the reasons why, due to this paper having to be so short, I will give two phenomenal reasons why I should be elected. First, I stay forward-looking while also being straightforward with my education and work. I always plan ahead while invariably going through with what prevails to be most significant, that of which is my education. I always try hardest to accomplish everything possible to assist me to predominate in school and am always looking for an opportunity to go further on in life.

In my community, I donate to St Jude’s Hospital for cancer research. Almost half of my family has had some kind of cancer. Donating to St. Jude’s Hospital helps me give back to people who have already lost their lives, are undergoing treatment, or anyone who might have cancer in the future. In my 7th grade year, another student and I raised money to help find a cure for Type One Diabetes. The money that we raised went to an organization called “Beyond Type One” so that they can use it to perform scientific experiments to find a cure. Finally, in my 5th grade year at LaPerche Elementary, I created an organization that helped soldiers. I worked with my 5th grade teacher to help spread the word. I greatly appreciate my nomination to be considered for induction into the National Honors Society. I would be honored to join such an organization as it would not only provide opportunities for myself, but also encourages and emphasizes the importance of service to community. Before and during high school, I have been active in serving the community in a consistent way. Other activities I do also influence and shape the way in which I approach service and leadership tasks.

It would be an honor to be among the exemplary students who represent the National Honor Society. The first time I heard about NHS was in the second semester of my freshman year. Ever since then I pushed myself to work hard. Thinking that by pushing myself harder to get that A in that one academically challenging class, putting on a smile every day, and getting better at time management while displaying character, scholarship, leadership, and service will help me to become an NHS student who represents the ideology of the club.

I believe that I should be inducted into the National Junior Honor Society, because of the qualifications I have in character, attitude, education and service to Cliffside Park Middle School and our community. Being inducted into the National Junior Honor Society will help me grow as a person and will provide me with new challenges and skills. I will learn to become more responsible, to have time management, and will have the opportunity to help those in need. My service to the Cliffside Park has helped me learn to help others and to give to others.

The four pillars of the National Honor Society consists of leadership, scholarship, service, and character. These characteristics must be possessed by an individual in order to be a member of the society. I believe that I possess all the these four qualities and should become a member of National Honor Society.

Although most of my involvement has centered around politics, where I have been an active volunteer in the current election cycle, my service also extends to the homeless community in the Quad Cities. After recognizing the extent of homelessness in Davenport, my friend decided to start a nonprofit 5K to benefit a local shelter and I immediately joined in the venture. By working with the shelter rather than independently, we were able to avoid the faults set forth in To Hell With Good Intentions. Our good intentions have donated over $10,000 to King’s Harvest Ministries, who uses funds in a way that raises the standard of living for the local homeless

I am ready to board the ship, and set sail – pointing towards a bright future of being an ECU pirate. Being admitted into the Honors College at ECU would be the catalyst to a successful future. As a high school senior, I am considering many universities and believe that being apart of the ECU community would allow me to reach my full potential. Growing up I have always set high standards for myself academically and extracurricularly. I participate in many clubs at my school including BETA club and National Honor Society. Not only do these clubs recognize academic excellence, they also provide many opportunities for community service. Throughout high school, I have involved myself with various activities, both curricular and extracurricular. As a member of National Honor Society (NHS), I participate in numerous public service events. Some of which include volunteering at Springdale’s annual Strawberry Festival, Senior Citizen Brunch and Street Fair amongst a variety of school functions such as Education Celebration and our recent Job Fair. Through NHS, I also tutor other students in the High School as well as students of any age in the district at the Springdale Public Library. Outside from NHS, I have volunteered at a variety of places.
