Horrible might be the first word that crosses to most of our mind when we heard about nuclear. It is still in mind the Hiroshima and Nagasaki tragedy in World War II that left deep wound to the humanity. The Chernobyl accident that killed thousands of people also still haunted even it happened over thirty years ago. Apart from this, we can’t deny the benefits of nuclear power in our life. Nuclear power is not always about the nuclear reactor and weapon. It has huge benefit in other sectors, like in agriculture sector to produce superior varieties for food security of the nation. The Sterile Insect Technique was first applied against the screwworm fly, a serious pest of cattle. The female of the screwworm fly lay their eggs in sores or other open wounds on the animals. After hatching, the larvae eat the tissues of their host. As they do so, they expose a still larger area to egg laying, often finally killing the host. Starting in early 1958, up to 50 million sterilized both male and female flies were released each week from aircraft flying over Florida and parts of the adjoining states. Each time a fertile female in the natural population mated with a sterile male, the female laid sterile eggs. Since the females mate only once, her reproductive career was at an end.
