After watching the video about Obesity in America, I had a realization of just how bad it is today. There are so many unhealthy and processed foods that are available to and the majority of the time, cheaper, for Americans. Obesity rates are growing in most of america and has become a serious health problem in early childhood. One of the problems in obesity is the fructose found in almost every food americans consume. The food industry will advertise that their processed foods are the “smarter choice” but are still filled with sugar and other ingredients we are not meant to consume. 125). If caregivers take the time to make positive eating behaviors and remove distractions it will greatly benefit their child and allow them to focus on eating. School cafeterias can be another influence on children’s eating habits. If the school lunches have one healthy option and one unhealthy option, the child will most likely choose the unhealthy one. Some children do not get a proper meal at home, whether it be healthy or unhealthy, so it is important for schools to aid in their students health by feeding them a healthy and nutritious meal. Schools should be promoting health, however, I do not believe they should get involved so much as they are putting the child’s BMI on their report card. Their purpose may be to get the parents attention and keep them aware of their child’s health but, their doctor can do the same. In order to get BMI scores you must be weighed and if children are being weighed enough to notice they may become self conscious of the situation. Another alternative could be promoting a healthy lifestyle, and if the children become interested they could get the parents involved
