“I’d pet ‘em, and pretty soon they’d bit my fingers and I pinched their heads a little and then they was dead” (Steinbeck 58). Through this quote you can see the way Lennie’s intentions are contrary to the outcomes of his actions. His innocence is revealed by his want for the comfort the mice bring him, but doesn’t think of his strength and unintentionally kills them.
In the historical fiction novella, Of Mice and Men, by John Steinbeck, George’s decision to kill Lennie at the end of the novel was justified. Lennie Smalls is always with his best friend George. He is incapable of doing many things because he is mentally disabled. George normally makes decisions for him and in this case, it’s about Lennie suffering and staying alive, or ending his life peacefully. Curley is a character that played a big role.
The vocabulary used by Lennie is not the best. The characteristics of Lennie shows that he is not the brightest person. He was drinking lake water that was not clean. He ened up putting his hat in all and took a big gulp from the water. There is are mistakes made by Lennie throughout the book.
Lennie is Autistic which makes it difficult for him to understand social communication and interaction. He also has poor self-awareness making him not know his own strength, because of that at the start he kills a mouse by petting it too hard, when the puppy bit him he smacked the dog too hard, and Curley's wife, Lennie went to touch hair because it was soft, but it frightened her causing Lennie to become scared when she started screaming. Even though Lennie didn’t know what he was doing and didn’t mean to do it, it would probably happen again putting Lennie and others in danger.

In that quote, it is clearly stated that despite his love for the puppy, he was unable to control his strength, and as a result, he killed something he had not intended to. Lennie's dead puppy acts as a warning, but Curley's wife is unable to resist the attention and company he is offering and chooses to ignore it. This leads to Curley’s wife showing him her soft hair leading to disaster as Curley’s wife ”struggled violently under [Lennies] hands. Her feet battered on the hay and she writhed to be free; and from under Lennie's hand came a muffled screaming”
The unconscious acts of Lennie in Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck lead to terrible incidents. Steinbeck exemplifies in the book how even good people can act in violent ways. John Steinbeck uses Lennie’s action of killing Curley’s wife to communicate to the audience how he isn’t killing her with malicious intent, but how he is a good person who acted violently. Curley’s wife is intrigued by Lennie and his infatuation with petting soft things. She giggled at him realizing how he was on the strange side, even so he seems harmless, and with his intentions he is.
Personally i believe that Lennie was loony and didn 't know how to control himself. In addition, I know in the book Lennie butchered bijou animals uncontrollably. Also Lennie was a kind person, but when he got pissed he hurt Curley However, people might say that he didn 't know what he was doing when doing such things.
Lennie cannot change his mental disability nor can Crooks change his race, but due to these inalterable characteristics, Lennie hurts others unintentionally, and Crooks is hurt by others. “Naturalism does not deal primarily with individuals in themselves, but rather with social groups, settings, or movements…”( ), which relates to the story, because Lennie’s actions not only affect him and his future, but the other characters in the book. In Of Mice of Men, a novel written by John Steinback, George's decision to end Lennie's life was a difficult one, but ultimately the right one. Lennie, due to his mental disability, had a tendency to get into trouble and cause harm to himself and those around him. George, as Lennie's caretaker, was the only one who could take the necessary steps to protect Lennie from himself. There are two reasons Curley wants to kill Lennie. The first reason is because he is a big guy, and Curley hates big guys. The second reason is because Lennie killed his wife. It states in “Of Mice and Men” that “Curley gon’ta wanta get ‘im lynched. Curley’ll get ‘im killed.”
Curley used this as an excuse to kill Lennie. He really wanted to kill Lennie because he destroyed his hand though. Curley said he was going to blow Lennie's guts out and make him suffer and be in pain. George prevented this by shooting Lennie in the back of the head and ending him quickly. George killed lennie because if he didn’t, Curley would have made him suffer.
People today with mental disabilities are often criticized for not being “up to par” with everyone else in the world. This is true especially in the 1920’s, in which the novel Of Mice and Men takes place. Take Lennie Small for example, a large and hefty man, who has a mental disability. He, as a character, is blamed for the heinous act of murdering the antagonist’s wife, whose name is never revealed. It is true that Lennie does fracture her neck, but he does so without knowing.
Of Mice and Men is about Lennie and George in which Lennie decided to feel a girls skirt because he liked the type of material. So George went with Lennie to escape and not get in trouble and decided to go to a bunkhouse where they work and are provided with food and a place to live. George and Lennie are best friends and so they went together. Lennie has the mind of a 6 year old and needs to be with George. When quit their jobs, George planned out a dreamland of how they will live when they get enough money to move to their own house.
Hopeless or Hopelessness? Hopelessness and futility can lead a life into nowhere, because without hope you won 't have a dream or a goal to accomplish. Hopelessness is often shown in places where people have no hope to continue life or anything. In John Steinbeck 's novel, Of Mice and Men, it shows hopelessness in character 's dialogue, and character’s actions.
Although Lennie loves mice, he is inept at handling feeble creatures. George notices the mouse and addresses it by saying that: “‘That mouse ain’t fresh, Lennie...you’ve broke it pettin’ it’” (Steinbeck 9). The euphemism that George uses for death suggests that the mouse’ death was not intentional, nor sadistic. Lennie roots his intentions in kindness, but his strength overpowers this emotion.
