At least 303 lives of African Americans were lost due to police shootings in 2016. Why is this number so high and why is it growing? Many people believe the brutality of police and authorities has grown stronger in the past several years towards those of color, and that it is becoming incorrigible. Back in 2012, the life of Trayvon Martin was lost suddenly due to a watch captain of the neighborhood, George Zimmerman. Zimmerman had claimed to see a “suspicious person” and was directed to stay in his SUV, however those orders were not followed.
America, home of the free, founded on ideals of equality and opportunity, or so we once thought. “Black Lives Matter”, has been a commonly heard phrase nation wide that represents police brutality against the African American community. Where and When did this popular hashtag start? Authors Jason Reynolds and Brendan Kelly brought the two sides of this racial conflict together in their recent book, All American Boys.
You may never know but a article in “The Denver Post”, takes about it. It States of the back that ,” 3 out of 5 African Americans experience some type of police brutality.” They took a survey and and also hot that 6 out of 10 black men say they personally had been treated unfairly by the police. There was a group of people of wrote this article which they call themselves The Associated Press. This information helps proves my thesis that because it's true that African Americans go through racism everyday still and if you wanted to try and find out how you can be put in situations and can decide for yourself go and grab a fiction book.
We all know Colin Kaepernick. If you don 't, I will tell you. He is a quarterback in the NFL and he plays for San Francisco 49ers. He is the one that started the movement for kneeling during the national anthem. He thinks that he is starting a movement for Blacks but all he is doing is dividing the country even more.
Police racism is a very big problem in America. The killings of Eric Garner, Michael Brown, and Walter Scott are other examples of police racism and brutality as well. Reasons behind police racism and brutality are simple. People still have a certain way that they think about people of color.
This is not a racial issue, this is a social problem. By July of 2015, the number of police- related deaths extended to 664 making the country’s police force one of the deadliest in the USA. Out of the total of 644 deaths, 321 were Caucasian fatalities, 174 were African Americans, and 96 were Hispanics. According to the reports, 578 of these deaths were involved guns, others involved car
There is a point in everyone’s life where they are scared of a police officer pulling them over. The fear is usually getting a costly ticket or taken under arrest; However, darker skinned citizens now have to worry about police brutality. Police brutality is the use of excessive and unnecessary force by police when dealing with civilians. Over the years, the country has been exposed to the truth about what minorities face when pulled over by a racist police officer. Most of the victims from the police mistreatment are from minority groups, therefore, race plays a key role in police brutality.
Police brutality on African-American’s is violent and harmful. In our society today many police are unfairly treating African American people. There is a lot of evidence and statistics here that can help me prove what I 'm saying is the truth. Police brutality on African Americans is a terrible social injustice that must end.
The treatment many police officers have towards African Americans is unjustified. Police officers have certain protocols and rules to follow certain scenarios. This is to prevent casualties as much as possible and to protect bystanders. However, when do some of these actions go overboard? Recently, there have been many cases involving police brutality against African Americans in which some had costed their lives.
In class we was given the task to write a paper about problems we noticed about the world, and we had then had to take a position on if we agree or not. The problem I chose to write about Police brutality mainly with african american people. I strongly disagree with all of the incidents that have been going on, and how they tend to get pushed under the table as if it 's the norm. Which is A huge problem many communities have dealt with, and have put fear in multiple people around the world. Surprisingly nothing have been done to prevent, or decrease the amount of incidents involving police and people who was weapon free, and clearly not a threat to others.
“In a survey on the streets of Ferguson, Missouri, citizens said that young black men are 21 times more likely than their white counterparts to be shot dead by police” (Trumbull 16). This is not the case! In my opinion, they are saying this as a result of not paying attention to the “white shootings” that happen everyday.
In America Police Brutality is out of control. It’s a problem in America because of racism, stereotype and disrespect. Majority of the brutality has been done on African American men. It is understandable some american citizens may think police brutality is a problem. In reality its really a problem.
In an article written by DePillis, he states “if there was to be an increase of black police officers it will not resolve the issue of police brutality because what people do not know it is more complex than we think” (DePhillis, 2014) . What he concludes saying is police brutality can happen with any officer. Before researchers concluded race has nothing to do with the amount of excessive force used by police officers. In addition, research has also shown that white police officers are not the only ones to use excessive force. Black police officers have also been known to use excessive force against black victims and are sometimes more aggressive and harsh than white police officers (DePhillis, 2014).
Police brutality is an issue that’s very important in America and it’s happening in many different states all over the country. It shouldn’t be happening at all, and in order to fix this, we have to start somewhere. The American system of government can solve these type of problems with requiring more training hours inside of every police station, and they should be interested in it because this is causing many different conversations throughout the country. This is a very good topic to study and research because it’s interesting to learn about. However, it is interesting in a sort of way that doesn’t make you feel good or entertained but instead makes you ready to step in and make a change for the better.
As a result, there is a drastic increase of violent outburst between both sides. For the last years, it was reported that 51.5 percent of black were killed by police officers (ibtimes.com).
