On July 9, 1868, the Fourteenth amendment was formally introduced to the Constitution and granted citizenship to “all persons born or naturalized in the United States.” These words have as an ideal purpose that all levels of the federal government must operate within the law and provide fair conditions for all people. As a result, the states had a obligation to the public. Through the Fourteenth amendment, states were forbidden from denying any person “life, liberty, or property, without due process of law” or to “deny any person within jurisdiction the equal protection of laws.” By directly mentioning the role of the states, the Fourteenth amendment also expanded civil rights to African American slaves who had been emancipated after the American Civil War.
The Second Amendment had made a big impact in the U.S. The Second Amendment stated “A well regulated militia, being necessary to the to security of a free state , the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.” Many citizens do not support the second amendment or as known as Anti-Federalists. Anti-Federalists is anyone who doesn’t support anything in the constitution. But it needs to be supported by the citizens to keep yourself safe. For instance, this amendment states “ Keep and bear arms.” This means that is the people's right to have their own arms for their defense. This is good because you have the protection you need.
The 2nd Amendment to the United States Constitution should be amended not repealed. The problem that we are having in America is people are misusing guns. It seems easy for me to understand that we should set some rules and limitations on what a person has the right to own, carry, and use. Keeping track of intense powered weapons made to kill people isn’t the same thing as getting rid of and banning all weapons and getting rid of the 2nd amendment. Three reasons why the second amendment shouldn’t be repealed is because number one, the 2nd amendment is important to prevent the government from posing a threat. The second reason the amendment is important is because the 2nd amendment gives people the right to protect themselves without the
This paper will discuss how censorship denies citizens of the United States our full rights as delineated in the First Amendment. It will outline how and why the first amendment was created and included in the Constitution of the United States of America. This paper will also define censorship, discuss a select few legal cases surrounding freedom of speech and censorship as well as provide national and local examples of censorship.
In 1787 our founding fathers assembled the constitution of the United States of America. Of this which contains the most important document to the American citizen, the Bill of rights. The first Amendment states: “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances” These freedoms granted by the Bill of Rights are often known as freedom of expression. These rights are most important to a truly free society. The first amendment provides us with new ideas and dismisses the fear of punishment
The First Amendment to the United States Constitution states “Congress shall make no law…abridging the freedom of speech”. Some people in today’s time would argue the first amendment is one of the most important listed in the Bill of Rights. Many forms of speech are protected by the first amendment that one wouldn’t think would be such as flag burning and “adult videos”. Over the years there have been many different court cases that have debated and fought the forms of speech that are protected.
Imagine being eavesdropped by the government, while talking a private conversation. This would make people feel unsafe. Katz, a person who experienced it, went to court because of this. The Supreme Court agrees to hear about 100-150 cases out of 7,000 per year. Cases are brought up to the court by the people filing a complaint or the people think their rights has been deprived by other citizens(USGOV). Some of these cases are a serious topic to topic about, and most are proved by the Amendments everyone has, as basic, fundamental rights. The Fourth Amendment protects people from unreasonable searches and seizures, and a warrant is needed for searches(Oyez). Public places are locations where everyone can go, where everyone can do anything, as long as the people are not threat to the public(US Supreme Court). The FBI has the technology to spy, and navigate where people are, and uses it against threat” (FBI). Including the fact that all Amendments protect US citizens, it is imperative that Katz had been deprived of his rights by the US government.
The first amendment guarantees five basic freedoms to the American citizens. These freedoms are of speech, press, petition, assembly and religion. As all the amendments, the first amendment is intended for use in situations with the government. The first amendment was written by James Madison and was sent to the states to be ratified on September 25, 1789 along with the twelve proposals for the bill of rights.. Then it was officially adopted on December 15, 1791.
The Bill of Rights was passed by congress on September 25, 1789 and was ratified on December 15 , 1791. James Madison and George Manson contributed to the bill rights. In the website, “Bill of Rights Institute,” the “Bill of Rights of The United States of America (1791)” explains the history of the Bill of Rights. At first 17 amendments were agreed on at the house but only 12 out of those 17 were approved. From there , only 10 were passed after being sent to the rest of the states. The bill of rights was created because of a conflict between the Anti-federalists and federalists. The federalists agree that a bill of rights was required.
I believe the First Amendment is vital because it allows people to stand up for what they believe in and choose their path in life. It lets us convey with other people to express our commonalities with the world. We’re able to express our political beliefs without being fearful that we might get sent to jail. Without this amendment, we wouldn 't be able to speak up for ourselves against the government whenever we
The Bill of Rights is a collective of 10 very important rights that Americans are entitled to. However, when it comes to ranking their importance, the first amendment wins first place. That is our right to free speech, religion, petition, peaceful assembly, and press. This is the right that puts in the hands of the people the right to make change.
The first amendment of the United States Constitution protects citizens’ rights to; freedom of the press, peaceful assembly, religious freedom, the right to petition the government, and the right to free speech. The Constitution itself asserts:
The first amendment is very important for United State citizens. Freedom of speech is one of the most important rights. Freedom of speech grants us rights to say what we want without getting in trouble with the law. This law is important because it allows us to express our opinions. Freedom of religion is another right that is very important. People have the right to practice their religion or not practice any religion. Freedom of religion makes living in the U.S. more comfortable due to the fact that in other countries everyone has to follow one religion. Freedom of protesting is another right that the first amendment grants us. Protests help people get together for a cause and even if it good or bad it should be allowed because we were given the right to protest. Protests created when a group of people gets together to speak for what they believe in. Overall, many citizens will agree that the first amendment is really important to everyone living in the United States.
The First Amendment states many of the freedoms a US citizen posses, banning/censorship of books however has violated this idea of freedom. Some authors dislike the idea of censorship of books, such as Ellen Hopkins. Hopkins is a successful writer who wrote a bestselling book called, Crank. She also wrote the poem Manifesto which was adopted as the official manifesto of the American Library Association banned books week back in 2009. Crank was a book that was banned and censored, which Hopkins disliked. She shared her thoughts on this dispute, “If you don 't like the content in a book, don 't read it. If you don 't want your child to read a book, take it away. But you do not have the right to decide “appropriateness” for everyone” (Hopkins
The First Amendment states, “Congress shall make no law abridging the freedom of speech.” Freedom of Speech helps those who need help and can ask the public without worry of getting in trouble. This amendment was included in the Constitution because now people e the right to advertise their work to others and have protests to things that they believe is right for the country. The amendments were important to the framers of the Constitution. The Freedom of Speech was important to the framers because of, “its diffusion of liberal sentiments on the administration of Governments.”
