The Tennessee Titans are a professional football team in the National Football League. The Titans were first known as the Oilers and played in Houston until they moved to Tennessee and got renamed to the Titans after Greek mythology. While they were known as the Oilers, they played in the AFL, which was a separate league from the NFL. The Oilers won their first AFL championship in 1960 and the merge between NFL and AFL happened in 1970. They kept the name as the Oilers for two years while they were in Tennessee then they moved from a temporary home to there long term home in Nashville, Tennessee. The Titans in Greek mythology were known for there power, strength, knowledge, and excellence. This is how the Tennessee Titans got their name. In Greek mythology they believed in a second order of divine, males were Titans and women were called Titaness. The Titans were one of twelve primeval deities. The Titans were made up of six men and six women, their mother was Gaia, who was the mother of the earth and the father Uranus was the father of the sky. The six Titans were Oceanus, Hyperion, Coeus, Cronus, Crius, and Lapetus.The six Titaness were Mnemosyne, Tethys, Theia, Phoebe, Rhea, and Themis. “The Titans, led by Kronos, deposed their father and ruled the universe.
