“If I tried to get away with it,” said George,”then other people’d get away with and pretty soon we’d be right back to the dark ages again, with everybody competing against everybody else. You wouldn’t like that, would you?” (line 68-70 Vonnegut) The government is trying to make it seem like people not being equal is bad.
In the short story “Harrison Bergeron” the prevalent theme is, equality is not the key to a safe society. In “Harrison Bergeron,” the weight balls and ear radios serve as a symbol of unfair equality throughout the story. Without these tools, there would be diversity among George and Hazel's society.
(Salinger, Page 38). “He was also the nicest, in lots of ways. He never got mad at anybody.” (Salinger, Page 38). Allie was innocent, and essentially everything Holden could be/wants to be.
George Washington was very great and important man with an incorruptible and exceptional character. George Washington was not particularly gifted in any one area. He had very limited education, and possessed no real intellectual talent. “That he was too illiterate unlearned, unread for his station and reputation is equally past dispute.” (Page 3)
Being an individual means you have the right of independence and making your own decisions, which is taken away from all the men in this society. I believe Equality would agree with the notions make in Ayn Rand’s short essay “How Does One Lead a Rational Life in an Irrational Society?” considering the points she offers, if he were to hear them. The evidence given from the book states there is no individuality within the men giving supporting aspects to why Equality would dislike his leaders.
At the end of the novella, Equality was brasher and started using the word “I” in his monologues about how everything was going to change because of the amazing thing that he discovered and did all by himself. That was wrong of Equality to do because his friends helped him along the way in his journey and did not quit on him even though they could have been killed. His friends really helped and Equality was not as sincere and grateful for them as they were for him. There was definitely a huge shift in his character traits in the last two chapters of the
Anthem and harrison bergeron have major differences in their societies, and become a dystopia. You can 't make a society greater by making everyone equal, using people 's differences to their advantage is how people should really live. There is no point in living if you are living with hatred or living in fear. The people should live in happiness but there is also not perfect world on everyone being happy. As Martin Luther King Jr. said… “The time is always right to do whats
The reason no one is more powerful is because they are all equal and treated the same. The reader of the book can tell that that equality is scared. Equality is in a hiding spot in a little tunnel. He is afraid that he would go to jail or get killed by government for being too smart and inventing a new thing.
These Amendments had created equality for all; however, it did not come in the ways people expected. “They were equal in every which way. Nobody was smarter than anybody else. Nobody was better looking than anybody else. Nobody was stronger or quicker than anybody else.”
We are the same, no one is cooler than the other just because they are of a different color. Being cool means you are known more by others then someone else who is not “cool.” We were made the same way as others and living in the same
If people didn’t get bothered than they would be happy and not know what to expect, because if no one in the entire world got bothered they wouldn 't have the knowing of how to be an actual human. In the book Fahrenheit 451 I am pretty sure that all the characters got bothered so when something happened they were use to it and didn’t get that worked up over it. So when Millie left Montag he was sad but later found out that he did not want anything to do with her. Therefore if people do get bothered they will so figure out what they don 't need and why the thing that happened is a good thing, that no one can change. You just have to keep living you life and see things on the positive side.
First of all, violence rarely solves any conflicts. On page 117 in the book, Randy the Soc states, "I 'd fight if I thought it 'd do any good." He
If everyone was made equal how is it fair to others? In the story “Harrison Bergeron” by Kurk Vonnegut Jr, The year is 2018, people are completely equal, and they are the same in every way possible. There are people in the society being handicapped to be made the same as the other people in the society. The people who aren’t handicapped are the people who have “perfect” intelligence, strength, and beauty, which means that they aren’t that big of a threat. The superiors(intellectual people) are a bigger threat to the society, the so called “perfect” citizens are not a threat because they can’t process their own thoughts very well.
Why does a street sweeper dare come into here?” (Rand 62) As Equality walked in there he felt very looked down on, and they saw him as nothing important. The council thought they were more important than him. Collectivism was showing in this part by the council thinking they were higher than Equality when he walked into there home.
In the story Harrison Bergeron by Kurt Vonnegut Jr. he teaches us that making everyone equal doesn 't make them any less different because they all have different handicaps for different things, and you can get killed because you 're trying to be different than everyone else. In this story something that goes against my theme for this story would be that be that people 's equalities can be important although not for someone 's own qualities. The theme that would work for this story would just becuase you make everyone equal that doesn’t make them lose their differences. In the story Harrison Bergeron by Kurt Vonnegut Jr. shows us that everyone has handicaps for different things.
