A Christmas Carol is a famous story written by Charles Dickens in wich the protagonist, Scrooge, is visited by three ghosts that teach him a lesson. During the years it has had lots of different versions, in this essay I'm going to compare and contrast two versions, the play: "A Christmas Carol: Scrooge and Marley" and the film: "from Scrooge". Characters in each version are presented differently. In the film characters aren't really described rather than by dialogues, you can see their personalities, clothes and facial expressions. However, in the play they're described in the beggining of the play or in stage directions.
The play “Christmas Carol” includes three spirits that visit Scrooge that change him in some way. The Ghost of Christmas Past, The Ghost of Christmas Present, and the Ghost of the Future are all similar because of their main motive, to change Scrooge. For example, Scrooge says “ Remove me! I cannot bear it.” The Ghost of Christmas Past had shown memories that were haunting Scrooge, which Scrooge had tried to forget them in the past.
In the movie and play A Christmas Carol Ebeneezer Scrooge discovers how his actions now could affect the afterlife. Both of these formats have many similarities, like how all the ghosts of Christmas are described and seen in the same way. Both have the Ghost of Christmas Past very bright, a woman, and held holly. The Ghost of Christmas Present is wearing a large green robe, very tall and mighty figure, and wears a beard. The Ghost of Christmas Future is black, frightening, and has bony fingers.
Also the most similar thing is that both of the book and the movie had the same lesson learned Scrooge learn how to honor Christmas and he learned the value of Christmas and he learned about the mistake he made. He also learned that money doesn’t get you everything, and money is not everything and that having a family is the best gift you can have. Charles Dickens and the Disney movie’s interpretation of Christmas Carol both portray the same message even though they depict it differently. Stave 4 in the book and in the movie have many similarities as well as differences, while still supporting the message; Your actions affect others and their impression of you. The movie illustrates how Scrooge changes throughout Stave 4, but because of the difference between Disney’s audience and Dickens’, the movie’s message is expressed more softly than in the book. In the movie, Scrooge is chased by a ghost hearse driven by the spirit of Christmas Yet to Come, whereas in the book he wasn't.
Consequently, the theme not only shows the value of hope, but also how Scrooge had a major change of heart when he received hope. Formerly, Scrooge was very vain and had an abject spirit. His life was without much hope of any happiness. The different themes in “A Christmas Carol” help people like Scrooge to realize how fortunate they are. In addition, Scrooge learns that he is very fortunate to have all of the things he does, and that hope can be the key to happiness.
I liked the movie better than the written version of A Christmas Carol. A Christmas Carol is was wrote by Charles Dickens. Charles has wrote many books like Oliver twist & The signalman. The movie and the book are almost the same. There are some similarities and differences.
Christmas Carol is an ancient story and movie. The novel and cinema are based on the same main idea ,a man named scrooge changing is awareness about Christmas. Although they have some diversities ,they still have the same essence. The movie creates alarming perception and curiosity. A Christmas Carol is about an antagonist name Ebenezer Scrooge. The reason he is the antagonist is because he basically is a very selfish man. Whenever there are poor families without money for Christmas, he does not do anything to help them, and does not even care. Both versions show Scrooge as a heartless man who cannot see his wrongdoings, but after a visit from his old business partner and a couple spirits, he finally learns a valuable lesson that teaches us
In A Christmas Carol, Charles Dickens utilizes a plethora of literary devices such as similes, metaphors, imagery, and denouement to explore the capacity for change. This reveals that changing is never impossible until you’re six-feet under. A simile is a comparison that usually uses the word “like” or “as”. Dickens’ use of similes demonstrates how Scrooge changes throughout the story and because of this, we see how changing all aspects of yourself isn’t impossible. “Hard and sharp as flint, from which no steel had ever struck out generous fire; secret, and self- contained, and solitary as an oyster.”

Some similarities between “A Christmas Carol” and “A Retrieved Reformation” are the fact that both the characters change for the better by the end of the story, and that they were both influenced by other characters in the story. In “A Christmas Carol”, Ebenezer Scrooge is visited by three spirits. These spirits show Ebenezer his past, present, and future. Scrooge regrets decisions he made in the past, is disturbed by the events that are happening in the present right under his nose, and is shocked by the events of the future. All of these different events touch Scrooge in a way nothing else ever had.
