The similarities between the American and French Revolution
The French revolution and the American revolution are two of the most significant revolutions in the world. They both occurred in the 18th century which is an era of new revolutionary ideas such as liberty and equality. The American revolution freed the thirteen states from British rule. The French Revolution brought an end to the monarchy, and turned France into a republic.
The 18th century was full of radical ideas. This period of time is known as the Age of Enlightenment. The two revolutions both occurred under the influences of the Enlightenment. In the America colonies, the works of John Locke introduced new ideas such as “‘the people’ have the righto overthrow their government
I believe that the French, Haitian and American Revolution were similar and different in many ways. The revolutions had important leaders, George Washington, Napoleon and Toussant L’Oerture. I feel that they were socially similar because of the Enlightenment, which was a source of inspiration for change. They where also similar in political way because they all had constitutions. I fell that there was a social difference between these revolutions because Haiti was more focused on freedom for the slaves rather than independence.
The American revolution inspired the French revolution by providing a blueprint on how to run a nation as a democracy. It was also an inspiration for the French because it gave them hope they could defeat a major military power. Enlightenment ideas inspired the French revolution because they made people want basic human rights and ways to run their new government. The estate system inspired the French revolution because 97% of the population that was being abused financially was sick of it. “The French Revolution differed from other revolutions in being not merely national, for it aimed at benefiting all humanity.”-
To begin, Both the American Revolution and French revolution were the products of Enlightenment ideals that emphasized the idea of natural rights and equality. The French and American Revolution were both the result of people that felt the need to be free from unfair
The main difference between the American and French Revoultion was that one successfully converted to a democratic government and one did not. The French Revolution was not successful in forming a democratic government due to France’s history of a monarchy, economic issues and divison among its’ people. Unlike America, France had a long history of sole rulers and dictatorship which made the change to a democratic government much more difficult and ultimately impossible. America’s motto of “all men are created equal” (Doc A) was the complete opposite of France’s dividing estate class system. The third estate consisted of peasents, common people and the bourgeoisie, the second estate belonged to the Nobles, and the first was the home to the Clergy.
Both the American and French revolutions took place around the same time. Citizens were fighting to change a political system called a monarchy. These revolutions have many similarities. But with every similarity, comes a difference. These differences are clearly seen through the revolutions.
In any case, the general population of the two nations had diverse circumstances and had distinctive concerns, which impacted the way every revolution started, advanced, and finished. The American Revolution was the point at which the British settlements in America rebelled against British lead for being exhausted by individuals, not in any case living on their territory and picked up autonomy by toppling British supreme control under King George III. The French and American Revolution had similarities and some differences. The French Revolution and American Revolution were the examples of regular people defying their legislature. The French opposed their administration in a savage way, as did the Americans.
From the 1750-1900 CE, it was a time period of industrialization and global connections, but other than that, uprising revolutions were occurring. During this era, the Industrial Revolution was taking place, but that wasn't the only revolution happening, there were also the Atlantic revolutions, and out of those revolutions were the American Revolution and French Revolution. The American Revolution and French Revolution are similar as they both had a common objective which was to subvert their existing government, however, they are different as the American Revolution was a successful colonial revolution, while the French Revolution was a revolution that took violent measures, but did not succeed entirely. In the late 18th century, the American and French revolution erupted with a similar goal in mind. Both the American and French wanted to overthrow and change their political system.
After three centuries of colonial rule, Spanish and Portuguese America got independence. Between 1808 and 1826 all of Latin America except the Spanish colonies of Cuba and Puerto Rico remained under Spanish rule. This was the result of a combination of long-building tensions in colonial rule and a series of external events. The reforms imposed by the Spanish in the 18th century provoked great instability in the relations between the rulers and their colonial subjects in the Americas. Many Creoles felt Bourbon policy to be an unfair attack on their wealth, political power, and social status.
