The Marine Corps Core Values are Honor, Courage, and Commitment these are the cells that make the marrow that's in the bones of the Marine Corps. They’re more than just a guideline on how to conduct yourself as a marine on and off duty, their a way of life. From day one of recruit training until our twentieth year in service we are expected to live by and constantly exercise these three values. With Honor you are meant to be loyal to the corps and all of its beliefs. With Courage you are expected to live up and beyond your potential to grow learn and test your limits.
Daniel Aguirre Ms. Tobias English III GT - 6th 12 January 2017 After analyzing both the movie and the novel, I have discovered similarities and differences. Ill try to compare and contrast the two since the movie does not depict the story exactly as how the novel does. Similarities There were still some similarities in the film that tied back to the book. One of the main ones is when Nick walks to Gatsby’s backyard and finds him standing at the edge of his dock reaching out to what was a green light.
Authors of classic American literature often utilize a character’s development to establish a worldview or opinion. In The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn and The Great Gatsby, Mark Twain and F. Scott Fitzgerald use their narrators, Huck Finn and Nick Carraway, to suggest an argument about American society. Seeking adventure, both characters embark on a journey, but their encounters with society leave them appalled. While they each have personal motives for abandoning their past, both end up interacting with different cultures that lead them to a similar decision about society and their futures. Ultimately, they stray from the dominant culture in order to escape the influence of society.
“It was after we started with Gatsby toward the house that the gardener saw Wilson's body a little way off in the grass, and the holocaust was complete” (Fitzgerald 112). This quote is referring to Nick and the gardener carrying Gatsby’s dead body inside. George Wilson had shot Gatsby and then shot himself. This murder and suicide are the peak of violence portrayed in The Great Gatsby. Wilson was devastated because of Myrtle, his beloved wife.
Gatsby is not the only one with twisted views as a result of unfaithfulness. Myrtle, George’s wife, is cheating on George with Tom in the book made clear here, “Wilson? He thinks she goes to see her sister in New York. He 's so dumb he doesn 't know he 's alive" (26). George suspects the cheating, but never truly discovers what is going on before she dies.
Harry S. Truman once said, “Actions are the seed of fate, deeds grow into destiny”. In F. Scott Fitzgerald’s novel The Great Gatsby, Jay Gatsby is killed by George Wilson who mistakenly believes that Gatsby Murdered his wife, Myrtle. Jay Gatsby is welcoming, optimistic and innocent of murdering Myrtle Wilson. Because Gatsby is generous, romantic and innocent, he definitely did not deserve his horrible fate. With Gatsby’s fate being two-sided, readers will better understand why Jay Gatsby did not deserve his fate.
In both F. Scott Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby and Robert Frost’s “Nothing Gold Can Stay”, it states that nothing that is considered precious cannot last because time is always moving forward, making change inevitable. In the novel, Gatsby and Daisy both relate to elements in the poem. An allusion made in the poem can also be used to describe Gatsby and Daisy’s roles in the novel. Throughout The Great Gatsby, Jay Gatsby attempts to recreate the perfect and innocent love that he and Daisy shared in their youth.
In Francis Scott Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby, there are two characters by the names of Tom Buchanan and George Wilson. Throughout the book, these two particular characters seem to be very different from each other in nearly every way. However, it becomes clear as the story continues that they share some ideas and attitudes in common. Specifically, Tom and George were noteworthy in the way they felt about women, the methods by which they conveyed violence, and how they responded to their wives cheating on them.

Hamlet and The Great Gatsby are very similar because of their themes. Hamlet, written by Shakespeare in 1603, and The Great Gatsby, written by F. Scott Fitzgerald in 1925 share the themes of madness, vengeance, mortality, murder, and disloyalty. Although the plots are not very alike, the two main characters in each have similar qualities. These characters are not exactly the same, their flaws and actions both lead them to being disloyal to others, including themselves, and in the end, their death. Both Hamlet and Gatsby were obsessed with their past and trying to solve it.
Blinded by Memories How protagonists of Catcher in the Rye and The Great Gatsby are similar by rejecting reality and how it leads to their downfall? The Catcher in the Rye and The Great Gatsby share the podium when best portraying the American dream and experience. Despite differing greatly, J.D. Salinger’s Holden Caulfield’s experiences and inner aspirations are akin to those of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s Jay Gatsby. The Great Gatsby and the American dream and success it illustrates including: wealth, fame, and roaring parties held by Jay Gatsby may initially seem wholly different from The Catcher in the Rye.
After watching the Great Gatsby, I gathered the differences between the characters. However, in addition I also got similarities that stood out in the

George and Gatsby are both lonely, although the life they lived are completely different from each other, one is rich the other is poor.
In The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald Jay Gatsby was murdered by George Wilson Husband of Myrtle. In the court of law there’s only one person who was responsible and guilty for the murder of Jay Gatsby. Although in the eyes of god there was more than one person responsible for the murder or had the ability to stop the outcome of the murder. Weather it was Tom being honest about his affair, Daisy doing the right thing and stopping during the accident or Jay Gatsby himself by taking control of the situation and doing what was good for both Daisy and himself instead of just what 's best for Daisy. Tom, Myrtle, Daisy, and Gatsby were selfish and self centered leading them to become Morally responsible for the death of Jay Gatsby.
Gatsby later tries to reconnect with Daisy, much to the dismay of Tom. Fitzgerald utilizes the characters of Gatsby and Tom to create parallels and highlight certain characteristics in both men. Tom and Gatsby are similar in that they both are very wealthy and love Daisy, each in their own way. While they share this similarity, there are a myriad of differences between the two. Tom is a racist, is part of the old money society, and does not face judgement for his actions.
