Disadvantages Of Using Solar Energy

Nowadays, many countries want to use solar energy to reduce the use of fossil fuels for economic reason because of price volatility and environmental reasons, but there is became a lot of debate and heated discussions on this topic. Solar energy has many advantages and disadvantages and there are some groups have different opinions about it. The first group of government officials mostly accepted the idea of using solar power based on different reasons especially by some leaders. While the second group of non-industry and non-government representatives mostly rejected solar energy and the third group is industry experts whose issues are costs, investments and space were generally ambivalent about using solar power. In this survey, the opinions …show more content…

Van Jones, journalist from CNN, commented that the solar industry supports the economy and jobs opportunities rise ‘’10 times faster than jobs in the rest of the economy’’. Also, Joel Jean who is Co-author of MIT Future of Solar Energy Study supported the argument that solar energy is sustainable and renewable kind of energy and also one of the largest sources of effective energy on the planet. All of the planet's reserves of coal, oil, and natural gas can produce are equal to the same amount of energy produced by solar power in 18 days. Dustin Mulvaney, Assistant Professor of Environmental Studies, San José State University disagrees with Joel Jean, he pointed out that solar panels made of silver, tellurium, or indium are difficult to recycle and solar panels without heavy and rare earth materials are difficult to find. Stefan Reichelstein, who is economics professor at Stanford University mentioned that in the public debate about energy policy and renewable and solar energy are still …show more content…

Philip Hall, who is from Solar Energy Industries Association claimed that in the long term, solar energy is much cheaper than the billions spent on the oil and gas industry. Investment in solar energy such as investment in your home or your car ensures your future. Rizk Machol, who is design engineer for Environment International mentioned that solar systems need a large geographical space to provide energy and droughts, heat waves, more intense storms, and wildfires have been increasing in frequency. When energy is put in one place it can reduce the effects from severe weather changes. Don Willmont, economist and writer for the Huffington Post, commented that people know that alternative energy can't assemble energy when the sun doesn’t shine or the wind doesn’t blow. Alternative energy will succeed with relying on storage technologies that need huge batteries in the future. Realizing this opinion survey is not comprehensive, I have identified key groups such as government, experts, non-experts and non-government. Some of them support this idea because the price of fossil fuels has become unsecured and most of them are optimistic about using solar energy. They think it's the best solution for the future of alternative energy. While some people from these groups completely objected because solar energy has many
