Before the Civil War, slavery was a very popular practice in the southern United States. Though not many people actually had slaves, most southerners defended it because one day owning a slave was the “American Dream.” In the novel The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, Mark Twain uses satire to reveal the greed, religious hypocrisy, and gullibility among the pre-Civil War south. Henry Clay, Speaker of the House made important decisions in order for Missouri to be admitted as a state that could impact American history. In 1819, slavery was a resourceful profit to slave owners and this sparked a sectional controversy in the country over the efforts to expand slavery into the new western territories. With the economy of the United States just starting up many people needed to find a new cheap form of labor. The answer was simple, slavery. The idea of slavery created lots of tension between the Northern and Southern states during the 1800s. Some argued for slavery was beneficial but they were wrong. Once you look at the religion, the declaration of independence and from the way slaves are treated you will see that slavery is the greatest form of injustice placed upon people of another race.

In 1804 Jefferson was elected for his second term, and a year before that America had bought Louisiana. Buying this large territory expanded the U.S ' territory greatly, which brought great difficulty to regulate.

Causes of the civil war Slavery: The burning issue of slavery caused many problems that threatened the nation and its people. The northern and southern states fought for different motives during the war. The south wanted to succeed and create a confederation under their own constitution. The south was all about slavery and their economy depended on it. Slaves ran the plantations and were able to be sold to pay off debts.
The issues that eventually led to the secession of the southern states had been brewing for a considerable amount of time. Most people want to say that the reason for the war was slavery, while yes that was an issue it don’t start the war and wasn’t brought up into a little ways in to the war. One of the biggest issues that truly led to the states seceding was the debate over States’ rights. There had been a debate for years on if the federal government had the right to pass laws reversed laws already in place at state level, going far back as 1798. Although most people claim that the southerners were trying to break up the union, It was more of a case of the south trying to stand up to the federal government and saying that the laws that they pass within the state do matter.
