The book I chose is Storyteller by Leslie Silko. Storyteller was written in 1981, it is a collection of poems, photographs, and short stories, including some autobiography stories. Leslie Silko is an acclaimed, poet, novelist and essayist. She is well known for her style of writing and theme. Leslie Silko who is a Native American Indian writes about herself and family members at Laguna Pueblo reservation, she delivers their cultures, beliefs, and their traditions in the book, Storyteller. The stories in her book are persuaded by the traditional old time stories that she heard while growing up on the Laguna Pueblo reservation, which is in New Mexico. Her book is unique as it is set up different than regular books. The table of contents is at the end of the book, the beginning of the book is in the center with short stories, poems and photographs at the beginning and near the end of the book. In the book you can feel the emotional ties that she has to this book. You get to know her family and the community that she grew up in. She tells how the Laguna Pueblo Indians believed in their history and culture and wanted to make sure that it is continued for years to come. In the book you read and see how Western culture and the culture of the Laguna Pueblo Indians mix and how they communicate the concepts of nature, spirituality and time. You feel the over whelming want to know more of her family and the Laguna Pueblo community. You feel how the family and the community had to use their morals, beliefs and values to overcome so much alienating effects of the dominant society. They still speak and communicate in their language and still today are one of the only tribes that still live in the New Mexico- Arizona
