Reconstruction was when the federal government was setting the rules that would let the rebellious Southerners back into the union. The goal of Reconstruction was to restore the union so the South would not secede again. In order for Lincoln to do that, he 'd have to make a few new and changes to the laws so that the South would want to come back serenely. One of the biggest things he and Congress created was the 13th amendment which would completely abolish slavery and that was the beginning of restoration. But were African Americans really free?
The thirteen amendment prohibits slavery. To repeal this amendment would cause a change in all civil rights accomplishments made in history. By repealing the thirteens amendment the civil rights act of 1964 would be out of use. Not only would repealing the thirteen amendment bring America ten steps backward, but also bring disrespect to the civil rights movement as a whole, and all who died for that cause. The revival of slavery leads to a new ruling of court cases such as Plessy v Ferguson (separate but equal), and Brown v Board of Education (addresses segregation in schools).
On February 1, 1895 President Abraham Lincoln approved the 13th amendment to the U.S Constitution which abolishes slavery. This celebrated as National Freedom Day. How would your life be different if you were not free? If I wasn’t free I will not be able to do what I will want to do.
In January 31, 1865 the 13th, 14th, and 15th amendment were passed and this changed the lives of most African American men and momen. To be an American means to be free. We are not under complete control over the power of anyone else. In January 31, 1865 the 13th, 14th, and 15th amendment were passed this is when African Americans got the right to vote, African Americans couldn't be slaves by law anymore, and African Americans could be citizens of the U.S. So being an American means we are not under the control or in the power of another, and we are able to act or be done as one wishes, being released from captivity, confinement, or slavery, and the power or right to act, speak, or think as one wants without interruption, or restraint.
The three Amendments from Amendments eleven through twenty-seven of the United States of America Constitution that I chose to discuss dealt with the abolishment of slavery, citizen’s voting for their state senators and the right of women to vote. Each has helped our nation truly be the land of the free where all citizens are treated equally. The 13th Amendment abolished slavery in the United States. It was followed by the 14th Amendment, which ensured that all citizens of all states had not only rights on the federal level, but on the state level, as well. It did away with the three-fifths counting of slaves in the United States census.
Slavery in the U.S. Constitution After the Unites States declared Independence from Great Britain in 1776, they greatly feared a strong national government that would be like a monarchy like the one Great Britain had. To prevent this tyrannical government from happening in the U.S., a convention of delegates from all thirteen states were brought together to create the U.S.’s first written constitution: the Articles of Confederation. This convention was called the Continental Congress. The Articles of Confederation focused on having a federal government, or a loose alliance of the states.
Freedom is the right to act, speak, or think as one wants without hindrance or restraint. Everyone in the world has the right to do whatever they want whenever they want, without having to answer to nobody. Unfortunately there was a time when African Americans were enslaved to work fields by the white man. But thanks to the civil war freedom was blessed onto them. The Reconstruction Era was a time of rebuilding the aftermath of the civil war.

Freedom papers legally stated that a slave was no longer attached to the slave owner. Free slaves had the ability and almost the same rights as white men. Free slaves were counted as three-fourths of a person when it was time to vote. African Americans were always looking for a way to become free from slavery. African Americans became free by using the underground railroad to move North away from the South.
In the late 19th century, being born in the South meant being born into one of two very different worlds. Clinging on to the vestiges of slavery, the social construct that was in place meant you were either afforded opportunities in the changing industrial landscape or forced into a life of struggle and strife for those same opportunities; the former refers to a life of a white southerner, although not with his own struggles, and the latter a life of a black southerner. The drastic difference in living was most apparent in the South where black southerners where treated as “problems” emergent from the abolishment of slavery. African-Americans were segregated, severely underpaid, disenfranchised, and even killed for questionable crimes without
Other being independence, expressing ideas and opinions. Franklin D. Roosevelt the author of the speech,”From The Four Freedoms”, outlines the freedoms. “This nation has placed its density in the hands and heads and hearts of its million of free men and women.” Types of freedom is freedom of speech, religion, association, choose one’s state in life, and life. I appreciate personal freedoms. I understand there are places where they are not appreciated. Without them I would not have freedom to go to any school I want, to have any job that I choose and be any religion I choose. I wouldn't have freedom to go to the school of my choosing. Some examples of places that have limited freedoms are: Cuba, France, Japan and Germany.
I am glad to be free and I can only thank the United States Armed Forces. These forces have gone and continue to go fight for our freedom. Without the Armed Forces, we wouldn’t be free. I am grateful to live in a country that has Armed Forces who fight to keep us free and safe. I am thankful for all of the soldiers who go away from home to fight for freedom.
